Marvin Gaye and Miles Davis never played on the same stage together and never had the opportunity to record with each other. Britt quotes I was highly influenced by Miles Davis as a trumpet player and highly influenced by Marvin Gaye as a vocalist. I wondered what would it sound like if I combined Miles playing in Marvin’s band? Thus the concept album Marvin Meets Miles was birthed by Johnny Britt.
