John Ellis is an acclaimed saxophonist, composer, and bandleader known for his rich tone, imaginative compositions, and dynamic stage presence. A native of North Carolina and a longtime presence in the New Orleans and New York jazz scenes, Ellis has worked with an array of celebrated artists, including John Scofield, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Darcy James Argue. His own ensembles, such as Double-Wide, blend jazz with New Orleans grooves, gospel, and Americana, creating a sound that is uniquely his own. Ellis has released over a dozen albums as a leader, earning widespread acclaim and multiple ASCAP Jazz Composer Awards for his innovative compositions. A frequent collaborator and performer at renowned festivals and venues worldwide, Ellis brings a deep connection to tradition while pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz.
