Description
On Mon, Dec 11th at 8:00pm, actress, director & entertainer JOELY FISHER debuts her new show “Growing Up Fisher: Music, Memories & Misadventures” at Martinis Above Fourth | Table + Stage in San Diego, CA.
Ms. Fisher invites you backstage, into the intimate world of her career and family with her hilarious, irreverent, down-to-earth show (based on her memoir) which is filled with incredible, candid stories about her life, her famous parents, and how the loss of her unlikely hero, sister Carrie Fisher, ignited the writer and performer within. Performed with Musical Director Ron Abel.
Growing up in an iconic Hollywood Dynasty, Joely Fisher knew a show business career was her destiny. The product of world-famous crooner Eddie Fisher and ’60s sex kitten Connie Stevens, she struggled with her own identity and place in the world on the way to a decades-long career as an acclaimed actress, singer, and director.
Now, Joely shares her unconventional coming of age story of the family members and co-star’s dearest to her heart, while stripping bare her own misadventures. In Growing Up Fisher, she recalls the beautifully bizarre twist of fate by which she spent a good part of her childhood next door to Debbie Reynolds. She speaks frankly about the realities of Hollywood—the fame and fortune, the constant scrutiny. Throughout, she celebrates the anomaly of a two-decade marriage in the entertainment industry, and the joys and challenges of parenting five children, while dishing on what it takes to survive and thrive in the unrelenting glow of celebrity. She speaks frankly about how the loss of her sister Carrie Fisher became a source of artistic inspiration.
Fisher’s new show (and memoir), with never-before-seen photos, will break and warm your heart.

ABOUT JOELY FISHER:
Growing up in a Beverly Hills mansion, well-fed, well-educated and well-traveled - what could be more perfect? But absentee father Eddie Fisher, an alcoholic and self-confessed drug addict, and sexpot mother Connie Stevens, introducing a succession of men into her life, made growing up very complicated. Childhood was emotional and problem filled. Having so vivacious a mother produced jealousy and an eating disorder and, by adolescence, she was overweight and playing the "fat friend" in summer stock and on TV. Entertaining was, however, in her blood, and her first show business gig was in Las Vegas at the age of 7. Two years later, she and her sister, Tricia Leigh Fisher, joined her mother in a nightclub act. Travel became a part of her life as the act toured the world. Schooling was sporadic, with many different schools and tutors until high school, when she and Tricia entered Beverly Hills High School. But, even there, the fast-lane, experimenting with drinking, drugs, smoking. Also, after-school jobs in an ice cream parlor and as a receptionist. A semester at the University of Paris was followed by Emerson College, but she left before graduating to start a serious acting career. Her weight cost her parts - she went into therapy, lost weight, and turned the career corner with I'll Do Anything (1994). On the personal front, she re-established relations with her father by "dropping in", unannounced, in New York as she was traveling to the University of Paris, and forced her way into his life.
