As New York’s premier showcase for rising jazz stars, Jazz Standard is proud to present vibraphonist Joel Ross in his second appearance on our stage as a leader – and in celebration of his debut album KingMaker on the fabled Blue Note label. The Chicago native has performed with such veteran leaders as Herbie Hancock, Louis Hayes, and Christian McBride as well as with cutting-edge contemporaries like Ambrose Akinmusire, Gerald Clayton, and Marquis Hill. Twice selected as a Thelonious Monk Institute National All-Star and a 2013 YoungArts Jazz Finalist, Ross has appeared at the Monterey, Seattle, and Chicago Jazz Festivals; he completed a two–year fellowship with the Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet in California and toured Europe in 2016 as a member of the Marquis Hill Blacktet.
