Description
Joel Paterson celebrates the 2024 holiday season with his popular annual solo Christmas extravaganza at SPACE, celebrating the re-release (on limited edition green vinyl) of his popular instrumental Christmas album, “Hi-Fi Christmas Guitar,” and the release of his new Christmas album, “The More The Merrier.” Joel will be playing just the right amount of Christmas music to go along with his one-man history of guitar pickin,’ including his fingerstyle Beatles arrangements, a healthy dose of ragtime, country blues, Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, and much more! PLUS a special mystery guest singing some Christmas blues!
BIO: Originally from Madison, WI, guitar and steel guitar wizard Joel Paterson has been a mainstay of the Chicago roots music scene for over twenty years, playing with many bands and showcasing his unique blend of jazz, blues, rockabilly, country and western swing. In addition to solo shows that delve into the history of all-things-guitar, Joel’s current projects include: The Joel Paterson Trio; The Joel Paterson Quartet (seen weekly at the world-famous Green Mill Cocktail Lounge); The Western Elstons (Chicago honky tonk favorites). As a studio musician, Joel can be heard on the recordings of the Cactus Blossoms, JD McPherson, Kelly Hogan, Pokey LaFarge, and Deke Dickerson. Jazz Blues
Joel Paterson is one of the most respected guitarists on the Windy City music scene today. The blues/country/rockabilly/jazz guitar wizard has spent the last 10 years touring and recording with acts like Dave 'Honey Boy' Edwards, Wanda Jackson, Carl 'Sonny' Leyland, Jimmy Sutton's Four Charms, Deke Dickerson, and his own Joel Paterson's Blues Roundup and the Modern Sounds (who were voted best Chicago Jazz Band in the 2009 Chicago Reader Poll). While Paterson can recreate the sound and feel of guitar greats like Django Reinhardt, Tiny Grimes, Chet Atkins, Wes Montgomery, and Merle Travis, he can also nail the Chicago and delta blues idioms of guitarists like Blind Blake, Robert Nighthawk, Jimmy Rogers, and Freddie King. If that wasn't enough, this guy can also tear it up on a pedal steel. Plain and simple this cat can play.
