    Jazz

    Joe Block is a Steinway Artist and award-winning pianist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and musical director from Philadelphia, PA. Classically trained from the age of two, he later discovered a deep passion for jazz and went on to study at Columbia University and The Juilliard School. Now based in New York City, Block has performed with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Kurt Rosenwinkel, and Gary Bartz, and has appeared at venues including Carnegie Hall, the Village Vanguard, the Apollo Theater, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

    Block is the recipient of a 2024 ASCAP Foundation Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award and is one of five finalists for the 2027 American Piano Awards. As a composer and arranger, he has written for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and regularly servesas a musical director at Jazz at Lincoln Center. In 2025, he was Associate Musical Director and pianist for the Broadway production of Good Night, and Good Luck, starring George Clooney.

    Block leads both the Open Heart Trio and the Joe Block Quintet. In February 2026, he released Solo Piano Vol. 1, showcasing his work as a solo pianist and interpreter. His debut album as a bandleader, There Is Always Hope, will be released by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Blue Engine Records in September 2026. He also serves as musical director forThe Voice of Miles: A Symphonic Celebration.
