Jimmy Greene Quintet - As We Are Now release celebration

    Jazz

On the heels of three sold-out nights of performances at the Regattabar with legendary bassist Ron Carter’s Foursight Quartet in March, tenor and soprano saxophonist Jimmy Greene returns with his quintet on June 14 to celebrate the release of his latest album, As We Are Now (Greene Music Works). Joining Greene for this special night are the same allstar musicians who appear on the recording, guitarist Mike Moreno, pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Dezron Douglas and drummer Jonathan Barber. As an added bonus, audience members will be able to purchase CD and vinyl copies of As We Are Now weeks before its release date on radio, streaming and online platforms!

A native of Connecticut, Jimmy Greene is one of the most respected saxophonists of his generation. As We Are Now marks Greene’s thirteenth release as a bandleader. Greene’s 2020 release, While Looking Up (Mack Avenue) was described by one reviewer as “ . . . a wonder. Rapture enveloped in gold.” His 2014 release Beautiful Life (Greene Music Works/Mack Avenue), honoring the memory of his daughter Ana, received two GRAMMY® Award nominations – one for Best Jazz Instrumental Album and another for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals for his song “When I Come Home.”

Greene has garnered awards in composition from ASCAP/IAJE, Chamber Music America, and the State of Connecticut, in addition to being named the 2018 winner of DownBeat Magazine’s Critics Poll in the Rising Star Soprano Saxophone category and First Runner-Up in the 1996 Thelonious Monk Institute International Jazz Saxophone Competition. Greene performs worldwide with his groups and has recorded and/or performed in the bands of Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter, Harry Connick, Jr., Tom Harrell, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Kenny Barron among many others.
