Four years after going on hiatus, Jimkata is back with a renewed sense of purpose and an extraordinary new album. Recorded in Syracuse with producer Jason Randall, Bonfires finds the trio digging deep and stretching their boundaries with bold, intoxicating arrangements fueled by swirling synthesizers and anthemic hooks. The songs here are at once modern and classic, blurring the lines between the organic and the electronic as they reckon with doubt, struggle, and perseverance in a search for truth and meaning. Like much of Jimkata’s catalog, Bonfires delivers transcendence in tight, dancefloor-ready packages, but there’s a sense of freedom at play that pushes the trio’s performances to new emotional heights, a kind of liberation that can only come from learning to let go of expectation and embrace the moment.
“I think the time away brought us all more maturity, more patience, an ability to see the bigger picture,” says singer/guitarist Evan Friedell. “We all gained a lot of perspective on life and the value of being in a band together.”
Indeed, the heart and soul of Jimkata has always been the enduring bonds between Friedell and his longtime bandmates, guitarist/keyboardist Aaron Gorsch and drummer Packy Lunn. Pals since middle school, the three launched Jimkata in 2005 while attending Ithaca College, where they quickly found an audience for their relentlessly feel-good performances, which grew from local house parties to club, theater, and festival dates on the strength of a series of critically acclaimed albums. Popdose hailed the band’s “bubbly sweetness,” while American Songwriter praised their “organic chemistry,” and Relix raved that the trio’s sound “proves that rock-based music still has a place in the world of four-on-the-floor beats.”

Blurring the line between rock band and electronic act, Jimkata is onto an entirely new era on stage. Once again a quartet, the band has been proving that no songs from their extensive catalog is off limits. Described as “A hard hitting dance party with soaring guitar riffs and soul tickling lyrics,” Jimkata takes you on an emotional joyride before tucking you gently in to bed, still humming the words. With a life long friendship at it’s core friends since middle school, Evan Friedell, Aaron Gorsch and Packy Lunn infuse Jimkata, with an adventurous musical streak & relatable lyrical themes. Adding Cooper Casterline into the mix holding down the low end has allowed the band to stretch the music out in a live setting. Mixed in with the modern sensibilities & hard driven indie rock are influences drawn from the likes of Motown, singer-songwriters & even old country songs, where storytelling & a quick turn of phrase share priorities with melody & the beat. On the heals of their newest studio album effort “Running In Place” which releases in Sept 2024 the band has once again exemplified why they’re the best at what they do. With the most recent release they continue the successful building of a vibrant, grassroots fanbase and finds themselves all over the US supporting their most recent release.

THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH, AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH
Gordon Sterling and The People are here to bring it to you.
When Gordon was 15 years old he received a message in a dream, “you are meant to remind people of a side of themselves they have forgotten through music”, the very next day he decided to devote the whole of himself to that cause and his journey began. For 25 years Gordon has been honing his craft on national tours and has become widely respected as a staple singer/songwriter/guitarist in Washington DC. Now, Gordon Sterling and The People is the culmination of that dream. He writes music from a deep place of heart and reflection that will make you remember.. the Truth, the whole Truth, and nothing but the Truth.
Freshly assembled in 2020, Gordon brought together a team of incredible musicians to bring forth a fresh and exciting palette of original, dynamic soul-rock tunes: Cliff Blum (guitar), Scott Clement (bass), David Ray (drums), Jesse Hooper (keys), and Jenny Langer (vocals).Their debut album “Truth” released in September 2022 is full of original music that ranges from soulful, heartfelt gems to full-tilt, exploratory ragers. The self-titled track “Truth” won the 2023 Washington DC Wammie Award for best Funk/Blues song. This group has something for everyone... for the People!
