Description
Winner of the 2015 Thelonius Monk International Vocal Jazz Competition and 2013 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, Jazzmeia Horn has a name that seems to capture the essence of her art. The Dallas native arrived in New York in 2009 and earned her degree at The New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music. It wasn’t long before she began appearing as a featured vocalist with such established leaders as Junior Mance, Billy Harper, Mike LeDonne, Peter Bernstein, and Ellis Marsalis. In 2017, the singer released her Prestige/Concord Music debut album, A Social Call, featuring her fresh new interpretations of such gems as “East Of The Sun (And West Of The Moon),” “People Make The World Go Round,” and the striking medley of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (aka The Black National Anthem) and Bobby Timmons’ hard bop classic “Moanin’.” “A singer who stands apart from many of her peers because she takes on every song she sings so naturally. Jazzmeia Horn is a performer for whom every word, gesture, and ornament becomes an expression of her total conviction and she completely comes alive in the moment.” (London Jazz News)
