JANE O’NEILL cultivated her love for songwriting in the landscapes of the Midwest, enveloped in the records that reverberated throughout her family home: John Denver, Norah Jones, and Bonnie Raitt to name a few. Her music resonates with a subtle longing for home though, reflecting her sentimental spirit and the musical influences she grew up with. She writes songs that tell universal tales of love, self-discovery, and resilience, all nestled within a voice that upon first listen, you’d swear belongs on the record shelf next to the greats.

In February 2023, 31-year-old Brittany Ann Tranbaugh (pronounced TRAN-baw) finally quit her office job to pursue a full-time music career. Though she began writing songs and playing gigs as a teenager, multiple bouts of creative and mental health struggles—culminating in a several years-long hiatus from music altogether in her mid-to-late 20s—prevented her from ever taking the full leap. Everything changed in 2021 when her longtime friend Jackson Emmer called her up and implored her to come out to Colorado and record her backlog of original songs with him. Tranbaugh hit the road and spent a week with Emmer in his home studio, resulting in Quarter Life Crisis Haircut, her comeback EP released in April 2022. Bouncing between witty sarcasm and heartbreaking vulnerability, the songs tackled a wide range of topics including her sixth grade queer awakening, an awkward run-in with an old acquaintance, and the impossibility of true folk music authenticity in our modern age.

JANE O'NEILL
JANE O’NEILL cultivated her love for songwriting in the landscapes of the Midwest, enveloped in the records that reverberated throughout her family home: John Denver, Norah Jones, and Bonnie Raitt to name a few. Growing up, Sundays were dedicated to music instruction for the whole family, a tradition that transformed ordinary dinners during the week into soulful music sessions. Being one of twelve children in her home, Jane had a small symphony to practice with, which nowadays has translated seamlessly to her abilities as frontwoman of her band. Eventually she’d leave behind the shores of Lake Michigan, which is an inspiration in much of her work, for the charm of the Chesapeake Bay on the East Coast, finding a home in the queer community in Virginia which is where she’s built her career in Americana. In 2023, Jane unveiled her debut EP, "A Little More Free,” a small collection of songs she’s worked on for most of her life. Jane is currently in the studio recording more work with the intention of release in early 2024, and hopes to have her voice heard anywhere there are ears listening.
