Description
Jane Bunnett has established an international reputation for creative integrity, improvisational daring, and courageous artistry. Her exploration of Afro–Cuban melodies expresses the universality of music as she’s embraced the rhythms and culture of Cuba in combination with her gifts as a flutist, saxophonist, and pianist. Circa 2012, Bunnett created Maqueque as a project to record and mentor young Cuban female musicians; over time, it became one of the top groups on the North American jazz scene. Jane Bunnett & Maqueque have played major jazz festivals like Newport and Monterey; the group was featured on NPR’s “Jazz Night in America,” and received a GRAMMY Award nomination for their newest release, Oddara(Linus Entertainment, 2016). Jane Bunnett – soprano saxophone & flute Joanna Majoko – lead vocals Danae Olano – piano Tailin Marrero – acoustic & electric bass Yissy Garcia – drums Mary Paz – percussion
