Description
The combined gifts of Jamison Ross – as a composer, arranger, vocalist, and drummer – were showcased on his 2015 Concord Jazz debut Jamison, later nominated for a GRAMMY Award for Best Vocal Jazz Album. His sophomore disc All For One (due out 1/26/2018 on Concord Jazz) will surely solidify Ross’s reputation as one of his jazz generation’s brightest multi–talents. Among the outstanding original compo¬sitions are the gentle, blues–tinged ballad “Unspoken,” the steady–grooving “Call Me,” and “Safe in Arms of Love,” a charming bossa nova co–written with guitarist Rick Lollar. Elsewhere on All For One, the 29–year–old Ross digs deep into the musical goldmine of his New Orleans and Deep South roots. From this rich lode, he extracts such gleaming nuggets as “A Mellow Time,” written by Allen Toussaint and first recorded by Lee Dorsey; Mose Allison’s 1968 classic, “Everybody’s Cryin’ Mercy,” and the disc’s title track “All For One” – a rare groove composed (and originally cut, in late career) by Wilson Turbinton, better known as New Orleans cult hero Willie Tee. “This album is a result of a personal reve-lation that we all have the capacity to love with empathy in a deeper way,” says Jamison Ross. “The love you need comes from me and the love I need comes from you. All For One, one for all.”

The combined gifts of Jamison Ross – composer, arranger, vocalist and drummer – present a unique offering to the world of jazz. While enrolled in the Kennedy Center’s Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency program, Ross caught the ear of singer/songwriter Carmen Lundy; recruited to her working band, he toured the world and played some of the nation’s most historic venues. In 2012, he won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition for drums; during the past four years, Ross has collaborated with such leading lights as Henry Butler, Christian McBride, Dr. John, Jimmy Heath, and Ramsey Lewis. In 2015, Ross released his Concord Music debut, Jamison, featuring his voice on ten of its twelve tracks; it later received a GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Vocal Jazz Album. “Ross hits on so many musical fronts. He’s one of those special drummers who know how to tastefully add a ton of color and diversity to a quiet tune…As a vocalist, Ross doesn’t simply sing a song, he feels its depth and musical possibilities and shares the joy of discovery.” – Geraldine Wyckoff, Off Beat (New Orleans LA)
