J. Navarro & The Traitors was formed by Jason Navarro and Eric Abbey, two musicians who have been in the Detroit ska scene for years but never played in a band together until now. Abbey also performs in reggae band 1592, and Navarro is the front man for nationally known punk band the Suicide Machines. They'll be playing for the first time in Cleveland with SABON, The Boy Detective, and The Semi-Pro Skaters on this jam-packed bill filled with the best in Midwest SKA!

SABON is the youngest ska band to come out of northeast Ohio- four teenagers who started between ages 14-16 (now 15-18) have been blowing the top off the fourth wave of American ska. The quartet has been infiltrating the Cleveland music scene with their endless supply of energy and bafflingly tight live production for the better half of two years. Their music style is refreshingly 90’s with a light, whimsical feel for easy listening. The group is definitely on the more upbeat side of the
punk scene; their female vocals contribute to the playful and nostalgic vibe.
SABON has a fantastic mix of duelling lead vocalists, comprised of sisters Sophia and Sylvia Parke. Their vocal styles and ranges are so distinctly different- a versatile, gritty end, blended with a dynamic high range creating a irreplacable vocal duality. Behind these two powerhouses is an equally balanced rhythm section, Lily Greier filling the musical pockets with endlessly complex No Doubt-style basslines, precision, and addictive grooviness. Punchy drums create the foundation of SABON’s songs, Caleb Evans truly showing off the silly and juvenile energy of this group of teenagers while still baffling the audience with his incredible skills that remain unmatched. Yet another piece of the musical puzzle is Sylvia’s melodic Iron Maiden-inspired guitar parts. As the primary songwriter, she truly works magic of a memory into every song; along with classic jumpy ska that makes you want to skank. Sophia holds the position of the sole saxophonist, exciting the crowd with sax licks, melodies, and solos that will take you back to the days of Operation Ivy. The addition of the saxophone
perfectly rounds out their musical landscape.

The Boy Detective started as a recording project between two friends to sing ska-punk songs about their kids and wives and to get out of the house a few times a month. Nic Good (guitar, vocals, eating) and Benny Capaul (vocals, embalming) worked this way on and off for two years until deciding to get serious a few months before Covid shut everything down.
The band took the time off to write and record Banned From the Bathtub in 2021, emerging from covid hibernation the opposite of a bear: fatter and more tired. Soon after, Geridan St Peter (trombone, shaved ice) and Seth Urban (saxophone, having a cool mom) signed on and the band played their first show in April of 2022.
A bit later, Ricky Held (bass, actual talent) joined and the band started the process of writing and recording their magnum opus: Art Theft (2024). Hailed by critics as “definitely music” and “pretty good”, the band used the momentum earned to launch themselves into the stratosphere, and also to buy some Nacho Fries at Taco Bell.
Oh, yeah. Zach Marshall (drums, being very nice) and Emily Steils (trumpet, loves LaCroix) joined in 2024. The Megazord was fully formed. After signing to Punkerton in 2024, The Boy Detective is ready to take over the world, or at least the shake machine at your local McDonalds…
