A concert tour organized to encourage voter turnout has taken on a new dimension in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Organizers Magic Hat Brewing Co., CEG Presents and HeadCount will donate 100% of the net proceeds from the four-city ‘Participation Tour’ to the Red Cross and other storm relief efforts.
All net proceeds from the show will go to City Harvest and their efforts to provide meals to those hit hardest by the storm.
“Participation is about more than voting. It means being an active part of a community,” said HeadCount’s executive director Andy Bernstein. “We hope these concerts will not only encourage people to vote, but also to help out their neighbors.”
A limited edition Magic Hat guitar signed by the performers will be raffled at each show, with every dollar raised going directly to the relief efforts. To enter the raffle, fans will be asked to sign a "Pledge to Vote" and donate any amount they wish. A guitar signed by all the performing artists will also be available via silent auction at the show.
The Participation Party is a celebration of democracy as the presidential election approaches. Born out of the quadrennial partnership between Magic Hat Brewing Company and the grassroots voter registration organization HeadCount, this event aims to propel revelers to the polls with music ringing in their ears. HeadCount registers voters at close to 1,000 concerts nationwide – an effort that will reach its apex with this very special concert series produced by CEG Presents, Nolafunk.com, and the Blue Note Entertainment Group, featuring numerous special guests.
