Contemporary R&B
Inayah
Inayah
Contemporary R&B
Inayah (IN-eye-yuh) is leading with emotional authority. With a combination of unshakeable Southern-fried swag and impassioned vocals, the singer/songwriter/actress has rapidly risen as a powerful voice in R&B thanks to her heartfelt stories about relationships, self-confidence, and navigating through faith. Her new album, Therapy Wasn’t Enough (EMPIRE), captures the raw complexities of modern love when professional help still leaves lingering doubt.
This concept is best heard on the vulnerable lead single, "Choose.” Over minimal production, comforting harmonies, and a real audio clip from one of Inayah’s own therapy sessions, her pained vocals take center stage as she finds herself faced with feeling like she has to choose between love and music. Five years in the making, the album is filled with diaristic singles like "WTF," "All Falls Down," and "Outside,” all of which further detail this deeply personal, ongoing journey and the realization that some emotional wounds require more than just scheduled one-hour sessions.
In 2014, Inayah's musical journey took root as she began writing songs for a jingle company while simultaneously sharing cover videos on social media and auditioning for singing competition shows like American Idol and The Voice. Inayah's dedication and patience paid off when her version of Ella Mai's "Boo'd Up" went viral on Instagram, propelling her followers from a modest 4,000 to an impressive 1.3 million, and getting the attention of Jamie Foxx, Maxwell,
and many more.
Her growing popularity and genuine talent caught the attention of EMPIRE. It led to a distribution deal that culminated in the release of 2019's S.O.L.A.R. (Storytelling Over Lyrics and Rhymes), which amassed over 635.6M streams and featured the RIAA Platinum-certified hit "Best Thing." In 2022, she followed up with her Insecure album while landing her first acting role as Trina on BET's Emmy-nominated The Ms. Pat Show. In 2024, Inayah released her acclaimed album Wait, There's More featuring singles "For the Streets," "Hot Sauce," and "Pretty Girls." Last year, she starred in Tyler Perry/Amazon MGM Studios' film Finding Joy, which reached No. 1 on Prime Video's U.S. charts one week after its release.
