Music
Brooklyn born Liz Hengber has been writing hit songs in Nashville for the last 30 years…. She’s had 7 number 1’s and over 80 songs recorded by artists ranging from Reba McEntire to Peter Cetera to The SteelDrivers.
Her career began in 1987 when she got a job waiting tables at the legendary Bluebird Cafe. Night after night Liz watched writers like Michael Johnson, Dean Dillion, and Beth Nielsen Chapman perform their hits. The bar was high and it was gonna take a lot of work to reach it. 4 years and 3 more waitressing gigs later, Liz finally landed her first publishing deal at Reba McEntire's publishing company Starstruck Writers Group. This is where her friendship and partnership with the legendary singer began.
In her first year at the publishing company her song “FOR MY BROKEN HEART” went to #1. It was her first cut, first single and her first #1 song. Liz followed that with three more Reba McEntire hits. “It's Your Call,” “And Still,” “ and “Forever Love” all went to #1. To date, Liz has had 15 songs recorded by Reba.
In the year 2000 Liz also wrote hits for Andy Griggs and Clay Davidson. “She’s More” went to #1 and “Unconditional” #3. These back-to-back hits put her on Billboard Magazine’s top Nashville songwriters for the year 2000. The year 2011 gave Liz a Gospel Music Award for her song “A FATHER'S LOVE” recorded by both Bucky Covington and by High Valley. And in the year 2016 she was able to put a Grammy plaque on her wall when the STEELDRIVERS “The Muscle Shoals Recordings” won best Bluegrass Album.
As well as writing hit songs, Liz is equally as proud to be teaching lyric writing at Belmont College. “ Teaching is my way of giving back to this amazing community that welcomed a girl from Bensonhurst, Brooklyn almost 30 years ago.”
Here are just some of the many artists that have recorded Liz Hengber songs: Reba McEntire, Chris Stapleton, Brooks and Dunn, Ronnie Dunn, Trisha Yearwood, Easton Corbin, James Otto, Vince Gill, Trace Adkins, Bucky Covington, Peter Cetera, Julie Roberts, Trick Pony, Lila McCAnn, Linda Davis, Andy Griggs, Lee Greenwood, Lisa Brokop, Trent Willmon, The Steel DRIVERS, Clay Davidson, John Rich, John Berry, High Valley, Hayden Haddock, Scott Inman, Conway Twitty and many more!

Andy Griggs often says his influences in music are like a pot of gumbo. Growing up in Monroe, LA, he was raised on Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmy Swaggart, Waylon, Bill Monroe, hardcore blues, and hardcore rock’n roll, sprinkled with a touch of jazz. He often says, “there is no defining a style of song. As long as there’s soul, it has a place in music.”
Andy has seen thirteen of his singles on the Billboard country chart with six reaching the top ten and three at number one. These include Bluegrass #1 Georgia Peach” with Larry Sparks, "You Won't Ever Be Lonely”, and "She's More". He's also made two motion picture soundtracks.
Andy has recently been in the studio recording new music. He released “Why Do I Still Want You” as his first song from the project and he is excited to bring his hits, new and old, to audiences around the country.
