Americana
Drayton Farley
Drayton Farley
Americana
Drayton Farley is a singer-songwriter from the heart of Alabama. Born and raised just outside of Birmingham in the rural towns of Woodstock and West Blocton, Farley draws on the grit, soul, and poetry of his Southern upbringing to craft songs that are emotionally honest and deeply resonant. Blending Americana, Country, Rock, and Folk into a timeless sound that echoes the spirit of legends like John Prine, Bob Dylan, and Kris Kristofferson.
In 2021, Farley self-produced and released his debut full-length album, A Hard Up Life, a heartfelt solo acoustic album entirely recorded in his bedroom. The album’s bare-bones production allowed his storytelling to shine front and center — chronicling poverty, addiction, resilience, and redemption with vivid detail and haunting simplicity. Songs like “Blue Collar” and “Pitchin’ Fits” struck a chord with audiences, helping him quickly amass a loyal following and tens of millions of streams across platforms online.
Farley’s breakout moment came in March of 2023 with the release of Twenty on High, his first studio album backed by a full band. Produced by Sadler Vaden (guitarist for Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit) and recorded at Nashville’s legendary Sound Emporium, the album signaled a major step forward in both sound and scope. Featuring support from members of The 400 Unit and guest vocals by Alabama’s own, Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee), Twenty on High elevated both Farley’s place in the genre and his storytelling without losing the emotional rawness that defined his earlier work.
Later that same year he made his Grand Ole Opry debut on September 13, 2023. During his debut Opry performance, he played his fan favorite, “Dreamer” and paid tribute to John Prine and his home state of Alabama by performing a cover of Prine’s classic “Angel From Montgomery” at the Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee.
Having extensively toured the US with artists like Willie Nelson, Dwight Yoakam, The Mavericks, Ryan Bingham, Charley Crockett, Charles Wesley Godwin, Wyatt Flores, and Dylan Gossett, as well as performing across Europe and UK supporting 49 Winchester. Farley has headlined his own shows across the United States and performed at notable US festivals like Stagecoach, Under the Big Sky, and Fair Well Fest. Farley has made appearances at other notable festivals outside of the US including the Edmonton Folk Festival in Edmonton, Canada and the C2C Festival in Berlin, Germany and London, UK.
Whether playing a stripped-down acoustic set or leading a full band, Farley brings a raw, lived-in presence to every performance. More than just a musician, Drayton Farley is a storyteller of the Southern American experience with songs that carry forward the legacy of American roots and country-folk music as a voice for those often left unheard.
