    Doug Johnson

    Country

Whether it’s behind the pen as the writer of record-breaking hits like the Billboard “Song of the Year,” Love Like Crazy (Lee Brice) or the CMA, ACM, CCMA and NSAI “Song of the Year,” Three Wooden Crosses, (Randy Travis), at the console as the producer of artists like Lee Brice, Hank Jr., Clay Walker and John Michael Montgomery, or behind the desk helming an A&R department, Doug Johnson knows his way around a hit.

Throughout his 30-plus year career as a songwriter, Johnson has had over 100 cuts, including 7 Number One Hits and 10 Top 10’s by everyone from Bertie Higgins and Alicia Bridges to George Strait, Rascal Flatts, Trace Adkins, Wynonna and Kenny Rogers, among others. Johnson made history when he broke a country music record with artist Lee Brice with the hit, Love Like Crazy, which spent an amazing 56 weeks on the charts.

His production credits are equally notable as well: as VP/A&R for Epic Records in the early 90’s, he oversaw the careers of Patty Loveless, Collin Raye, Doug Stone, Joe Diffie, Ty Herndon, the Sons of the Desert and many others. He later moved to Giant Records as President, where he guided the careers of Clay Walker, The Wilkinsons, Blake Shelton, Joe Nichols and Neal McCoy among others.

Following his time at Giant Records, Johnson lead the A&R department of Curb Records, whose roster included Tim McGraw, Leann Rimes, Wynonna, Hank Jr, Rodney Atkins, Lee Brice, Clay Walker and Heidi Newfield, among others.

In 2012, Doug Johnson joined the team at Black River Entertainment as the V.P. of A&R and is currently working with the artist roster of Kelsea Ballerini, Abby Anderson, Carolina Story, Hannah Kerr and Josh Wilson.

  • MaRynn Taylor

    MaRynn Taylor

    Country

Country music’s tiny new powerhouse is a reflection of her generation. “I want people to hear my story, and connect it to their story,” says MaRynn Taylor, country music’s fast-rising powerhouse vocalist who is on a trajectory to connect with millions of fans. Her new 5-song EP, Something I Would Do (Black River), provides a glimpse into the 21-year-old’s world with each track offering snapshots of her present and past. The radio-ready “Every Single Summer” reflects on a youthful MaRynn spending carefree days on Lake Michigan, playing outside and hanging with friends. “As an artist and human being, I want my music to inspire and be relatable,” says MaRynn. “Growing up with idols like Carrie and Taylor, I could relate to them. It was as if I could feel their heartaches in the music and as if the stories in their songs reflected mine. Today, that’s what I want to give to my fans.” She eventually moved to Nashville where a chance encounter at the 2019 CMA Music Festival gave her the break she needed—an impromptu performance after Black River Entertainment’s 60 Second Spotlight event had already closed for the day. MaRynn says she spent the next few months  in “music summer camp” learning about songwriting and she recorded music for the first time in a professional recording studio. MaRynn is excited to get out on the road and share these songs that are so close to her heart with fans and hear their personal stories, too. “I genuinely care about people and their feelings. I’m a good listener and I want to be there for people. There’s not enough of that in the world right now.” Today, MaRynn Taylor is no longer the little girl dreaming on the front porch; she is the voice ready to inspire a generation.

    Michael White

    Country

Michael White is originally from Hendersonville, TN and moved to Nashville with his family in 1964. Michael's father, L.E. White, a Grammy award winning singer, songwriter, and musician, created Twitty Bird Publishing with famed country legend Conway Twitty. Music ran in his blood and at an early age, Michael exhibited a talent for country music. While Michael was still in his teens, Twitty cut his song, "You Make It Hard To Take The Easy Way Out", which appeared on the B-side to the mega-hit, "You've Never Been This Far Before". Though Michael took a short break from the music world to pursue college, he returned to the country scene with vigor and his voice was highly sought after for demo recording. This recognition led Michael to a recording contract with Warner Brothers/Reprise and in 1992 he released his first album, Familiar Ground. Michael toured and charted several singles as a recording artist for Warner Reprise records from 1992 -1995.

Songwriting always stuck with Michael and has brought him success over the years, having had songs cut by Shania Twain, Brooks and Dunn, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Billy Currington,Kenny Chesney, Mark Wills, Trace Adkins, Sammy Kershaw, Hank Williams Jr,, Craig Campbell, Tracy Byrd,Easton Corbin,Tracy Lawrence, Blake Shelton, John Anderson,Luke Bryan, Billy Ray Cyrus, Emerson Drive, Jeff Bates,Craig Morgan, Charlie Pride, Gene Watson, and Confederate Railroad. His engineer work was featured on the Grammy-nominated James Cotton project Cotton Mouth Man, and he has engineered 20+ No. 1 hit country songs for Carrie Underwood, Sam Hunt and Chris Young, among others.

“Nick’s multifaceted talent mixed with his unbeatable work ethic makes him a true privilege to work with,” says Andy Hodges, Creative Director, Spirit Music Nashville. “We all can’t wait for the many successes to come for Nick.”

As a songwriter, he has had cuts with Rvshvd, Willie Jones, Brit Taylor and more. He also co-wrote on and produced the chart topping Billboard comedy album for Bobby Bones and The Raging Idiots that features Garth Brooks, Kelsea Ballerini and more.
