I Set My Friends On Fire

I Set My Friends On Fire, hailing from Miami, FL, are the end result of a sonic mind-meld of Nabil Moo and Matt Mehana. After a couple of years playing together as We Are The Cavalry, Nabil and Matt formed ISMFOF in late August 2007, but don't be fooled by the years under their belts. These are decidedly not old music vets, but rather uber-precocious teens who started their musical journey around the same time they started high school. The duo records thusly: Matt does the singing (fueled by "plutonium and Wheaties") and Nabil does everything else, and while this division of labor may seem unfair to some, Matt and Nabil are united by their genre-defying take on music and their desire to f*ck with people.

    In the beginning...

September, seemingly on a whim, Nabil and Matt decided to record a rock/screamo version of Soulja Boy's "Crank Dat" which they called "Crank Dat Cavalry Boy." Once the track hit their myspace page, it became apparent that I Set My Friends on Fire had stepped in a big steaming pile of hit. The song got upwards of 50,000 plays A DAY, so many in fact, that Myspace deleted the band's account, thinking they were using software to artificially increase their spins. In the time it took the band to remedy the situation, dozens of imposters set up phony I Set My Friends on Fire pages, and the song found its way to Limewire. To date, the track has been played over 1 million times.

ISMFOF followed up "Crank Dat Cavalry Boy" with two original tracks: "ASL" and "Beauty Is in the Eyes of the Beerholder," and recently released the new song "HxC 2-Step," which they recorded "just for fun." Total plays on the band's myspace page? Over 4.2 million and counting...and all without the benefit of a physical CD release or a record company's promotional efforts.

Being the superheroes that they are, Nabil and Matt so far have been able to write and record a song in a few days. No writers block here! Their efforts are made that much easier by the fact that they do all their recording in their house, by themselves.

The band writes: "the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive as we find out that our music is reaching all over the country (and even the world): one kid today even emailed us today and said that I Set My Friends On Fire was voted "favorite band" in his high school's 2007-08 yearbook! Others have said that our songs have been played at homecoming rallies and have spread all over their towns."

I Set My Friends on Fire so far have been the face of the new DIY movement in the digital age. On their own, Matt and Nabil were able to secure a cover story for their band in the Aquarian Weekly, and were booked on Bamboozled 2008. It is their creative self-promotion and undeniably catchy songs that caught the attention of Epitaph label owner Brett Gurewitz, who inked the band to a partnership of sorts in spring 2008. With the backing of one of the largest independent record companies in the world, whose ethics and aesthetics jive perfectly with I Set My Friends on Fire's, the sky is the proverbial limit for these two kids from Florida.

The band's debut album, You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter, melds the band's unique sense of humor (as evidence, simply read the song titles and lyrics) with an onslaught of thrash angular guitar riffs, pulsing dance beats, brutal breakdowns, sassy screams and lush melodic choruses.

"Our album is very eclectic and we feel that it will give the people something completely new," explains Nabil. "It has all kinds of styles woven in. The album is like a typical relationship gone wrong, spanning emotions that include joy, uncertainty, anger, hate, confusion, alienation, and everything in between."

ISMFOF ambush listeners from the get-go with the tumultuous track "Beauty Is In The Eyes Of The Beerholder," which pairs metal riffs and hardcore breakdowns with melodic sing along choruses. A virtual workout, physically and aurally, the album continues its relentless electro-grindfest with tracks like "Ravenous, Ravenous Rhino," "WTFWJD" and "ASL," which will have everyone spastically convulsing towards the dance floor. "Fans will find the tracks they've come to know us for, including "Crank Dat," and "ASL," but the album has many new tracks which continue the energy and songwriting that fans to come to know us for," says Nabil. "There are also more mellow tracks, including the "Interlude," which is a very chilled out instrumental break from the intensity of the rest of the album."

  • Kissing Candice

    Kissing Candice

Kissing Candice started as a mere vision in early 2012. Ex-Dr. Acula keyboardist and sample mastermind, Joey Simpson, was looking to start a project that would combine metal, hardcore, industrial and electronic music in a unique and cinematic fashion. Taking on the role of frontman, Joey hit the studio with producer Jeremy Comitas to record the debut EP”Murder” . While giving listeners a taste of what to expect from the band, Joey soon realized that it was time to put together a full lineup.

After recruiting Tommy Sciro (guitar), Michael Pak(drums), Mike Grippo (bass), and Nephew(Guitar) the band began to fine-tune their songs for live performances. Soon, this Long Island based five-piece had a sizable buzz growing online, with followers and fans accumulating on various social networks. Quickly attracting listeners on a daily basis, Kissing Candice was already proving that their brand is being eagerly welcomed to the scene. Shortly after the solidification of a lineup, Kissing Candice were invited to open up both days of Slipknot’s two day festival “Knotfest”. Wasting no time, the band began touring the United States in support of their debut EP while continuously writing new material to bring to their growing fan base. The band quickly began to be recognized for their theatrical presentation of their music at live shows which includes fog, lights, and gallons of blood!

Fresh off a full Summer 2013 United States tour supporting Snow White's Poison Bite (Victory Records) and Farewell, My Love (Standby Records) the band entered the studio to record their follow up to last years "Murder". The new EP, titled "Conjured" was produced by Jeremy Comitas and was self released by the band on December 1st through all major online retailers. "Conjured" shows off the diversity of the band while still managing to maintain a sound and image that their fans can recognize. Since the release of “Conjured” Kissing Candice has since brought their music to new markets by providing direct support to Bam Margera (Fuckface Unstoppable) on select dates of his 2013 United States tour.

Kissing Candice continued their slaughter all throughout 2014 by touring and playing shows with bands such as Combichrist, Dance Gavin Dance, Capture The Crown, and many more. Towards the end of 2014, Victory Records announced they had signed Kissing Candice. The band closed out the year with the release of their new single and music video “Ghosted”.

Kissing Candice released their debut Victory Records full length entitled “Blind Until We Burn” on June 29, 2015. In support of the album, Kissing Candice toured away Summer 2015 beginning with a full US run with legendary hip-hop duo Twiztid. Immediately after, the band did another full run around the USA on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.

Throughout 2015 and 2016, the band continued to tour in support of their debut full length album, touring with national acts such as Aiden, It Lies Within, and Scare Don't Fear. In Summer 2016, the band went back into the studio to record the new single "Taken" with Zach Jones (My Enemies & I). With this single, the band debuted a ferocious new sound which their legions of dedicated listeners instantly latched onto.

Following the release of Taken, Kissing Candice was invited to perform on the Main Stage at The Gathering of The Juggalos 17. The band made an impact on theatrical rap duo Insane Clown Posse and have since been invited back to play the main stage of both their Hallowicked (October 2016) and Canadian Juggalo Weekend (February 2017) Festivals.

Kissing Candice is currently working on the release of new material and continued non-stop touring. The band has no intentions on slowing down and will continue to pummel their unique blend of horror and metal down everyone's throats until the world has experienced them.

  • Awaken I Am

    Awaken I Am

    Alternative Rock

Awaken I Am is a 5-piece Progressive Pop-Rock band from Australia’s beautiful Gold Coast and Brisbane. You may recognize some of them from the band Sleepers, but after a few line-up changes, the guys decided to start fresh as Awaken I Am. The list of bands who AIA have toured with in the past year also looks remarkably like the roster of Australia’s biggest touring acts: The Amity Affliction, Closure In Moscow, As Tall As Lions, Lydia, Dream On Dreamer, Tonight Alive, Parkway Drive, Skyway, Caulfield, Rufio, Floating Me, Electric Horse, The Winnie Coopers and Surecut Kids, just to name a few.

Awaken I Am are easily distinguished from their peers in many ways. Their EP, Resonance,is brimming with infectious guitar riffs, playful drum structures, catchy composition, and perfectly subtle synths. Their insightful, perceptive lyrics and heartfelt, energetic music can be embraced by listeners of multiple genres, which is why they draw fans from a variety of bases including rock, hardcore, alternative, pop and indie.

AIA’s live show is something to be seen as well. They are teeming with energy and it doesn’t take the crowd very long to catch on to their enthusiasm. Even if you have never heard them before, you can’t help but appreciate the obvious quality and get your head moving. They hit you with passionate vocal harmonies that will send chills through your bones, all while instrumentals remain as tight as they are on the album.

Awaken I Am are, quite effortlessly, raising the bar on what our generation accepts as quality music and talented musicians.
