Lover of Music
A 3rd generation Californian, Jim grew up in Orange County, CA.
At 10 yrs old Jim started surfing in Hunting Beach, CA (at the Cliff’s).
At 12, Jim started playing guitar after hearing Dick Dale and the Del-Tones playing “Misirlou”. Then the British rock-n-Roll Invasion with some of the greatest rock guitar players.
At 14, Jim was playing lead guitar in five-piece band at school dances at what was called “sock hops” (you had to take your shoes off to dance on the gymnasium floor. We were even paid to play!
At 15, Jim family moved to Dana Point, CA. Started at San Clemente High School, he admits that he missed a lot of classes when surf with up.
At 16, Jim was asked to play bass guitar in a local band called Vol 8 Number 44, with San Clemente locals, Tom Long, Ron Brown, Fred Swegles, and Mike Chamberlin. They played at high school dances and private parties.
At 19-25, Jim started touring in various bands. Jim said, “just about every town we played in, we would go to a local club and hear really talented musicians / singers”.
That made Jim think that he should have a “back-up plan” to playing music for a living. Jim is a Financial Advisor / Wealth Money Manager LPL Financial. A couple of years ago Jim joined a local Ukulele Group (The Bamboo Room) of about 40 Ukulele players. He loved the Aloha vibe with the sound of Ukuleles. It reminded him of visiting his bother Tom, in Kauai, (Tom has lived in Kauai for 54 years with his wife Linda).
Jim continues his love for music, and plays in the local area for what he says is “for the fun of it”. Jim lives in Dana Point, CA with his wife, Mary Ann (they started dating at SCHS). They raised five children, Joe, April, Shade, PJ, Shala, and now has a number grandchildren, and great grandchildren!
