Proclaimed “one of the most exciting young bassists in jazz” by The New York Times, Harish Raghavan is best known for his years–long affiliation with trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire as well as his collabora­tions, on stage and on disc, with Kurt Elling, Vijay Iyer, and Charles Lloyd to name but a few. His new album Calls For Action features an entirely new program of music penned by Raghavan and a top–shelf band comprised of some of the city’s rising–star players; it was produced by another of Raghavan’s long­time musical associates, saxophonist Walter Smith III. “Calls for Action is a culmination of a year’s de­velopment with this band, which enabled us to explore the music to develop a strong cohesiveness⁠— the process also greatly aided in my development as a composer.
