“We are ecstatic to finally get the opportunity to work with the family at Equal Vision Records. Our relationship has been a long time in the making, and it is like a dream come true to be able to call ourselves part of the team,” states Being As An Ocean vocalist Joel Quartuccio of the band’s recent signing announcement. “Ever since we met Dan Sandshaw, EVR’s president, we knew that the label’s ethos and passion for the music was akin to our own and that we didn’t want to settle for anything less. We are eternally grateful to EVR for sticking it out through the years with us to see this beautiful partnership to fruition.”
“Being As An Ocean is one of my favorite bands and I’m honored to have them join our family,” shares Sandshaw. “I look forward to working with them on inspiring new music filled with love, hope and compassion.”
The San Diego, CA-based outfit – comprised Quartuccio, vocalist/guitarist Michael McGough, guitarist Tyler Ross, and bassist Ralph Sica – announced their signing in February 2016, alongside the release of “Dissolve” – a stunning new song and music video that premiered via Alternative Press. The new single was recorded in Atlanta, GA at Glow In The Dark Studios with producer Matt McCllellan (Better Off, Capsize) and takes Being As An Ocean in a more hook-driven direction while still incorporating the band’s signature sound of sophisticated storytelling woven over lush, ambient soundscapes. The unique juxtaposition of Joel Quartuccio’s gritty, impassioned vocal work and Michael McGough’s gracefully soaring vocals creates a distinct blend that is both captivating and cathartic.
“‘Dissolve’ has been about 3-4 months in the making, being written over one of our longest timelines, and we think it is one of our best yet. We, simply, have never had the time to make something this special before, and I think it really shows,” reveals Quartuccio.
To date, Being As An Ocean has released three full-lengths, the latest of which – a self-titled album released last year – found impressive Billboard Chart placements including: No. 3 Vinyl Album, No. 7 Hard Rock Album, No. 11 Independent Album, No. 15 Internet Album, No. 17 Alternative Album, No. 25 Top Rock Album and No. 72 Top Current Album. The band will record their fourth full-length album later this year.
Since their inception in 2012, the band has built up up a massive and devoted following all around the world, through relentless touring and a powerful presence on social media. In 2014, the band was noted by Bandsintown as one of the top touring artists for having performed 187 shows throughout the year; And in 2015 they won the award for Best Underground Band at the Alternative Press Music Awards, beating out the massively impressive fellow nominees of State Champs, Knuckle Puck, Major League, Tigers Jaw and The Hotelier in the fan voted category. Being As An Ocean has toured and shared stages with the likes of August Burns Red, Silverstein, Amity Affliction, Defeater, Stick To Your Guns, Architects UK and more.
“In 2016, our listeners and fans should expect a lot of amazing tours, more and more singles, and a band, full of best friends, excited and ready to make this year one of the best that Being As An Ocean has ever had.”
