Out January 19, 2024 on Run For Cover Records, glass beach's long-awaited second album, plastic death, is a stunning, transformative creation. Across its 13 tracks, the "bizarrely inventive" band pulls from indie rock, jazz, prog, hardcore, metal, experimental, and beyond.
"This album is the Pacific garbage patch, cultural trash strewn together seemingly by accident, standing in stark juxtaposition to each other," says front person and primary songwriter J. McClendon.
Earlier this month, glass beach dropped the post-punk/jazz hybrid track, "the CIA." It was the first glimpse at the expansive universe McClendon has been meticulously crafting for plastic death, and today they share a whole lot more with the release of "rare animal."
Arriving about halfway through the immersive album, "rare animal" is an immediate standout; it's the stuff of legends, a harmonious blend of plucky guitars, twinkly synth, bursts of gang vocals and eccentric beats.
