Based in Washington’s rural Wahkiakum County, on the north shore of the Lower Columbia River, Americana/pop/country band Giants in the Trees are Jillian Raye, Erik Friend, Ray Prestegard, and Krist Novoselić (founding member of Nirvana). The band debuted in late 2017 with their eponymous 12 song release. The band have played shows mostly in the Northwest and have trekked to California on their way to the appearing at the 2018 CalJam festival. The group have just released their second effort—titled “Volume 2” Novoselić rocks the accordion and bass. Prestegard brings mastery of six- and four string instruments. Raye plays six string banjo and drives the sound with top vocal chops. And Friend loves to lay down a groove. It all comes together for an original sound that includes old-school pop music, Americana, and classic country. The band is not offended by the word “schmaltz” because, with their recordings and live performances, the goal is to have as much fun as possible.

The new album, the band’s third endeavor with Endino goes further with an array of tracks that magically weave multiple open-tuned guitars with a rhythm section that swings and sways with undeniable grooves. Easier than walking and chewing gum, these 10 songs will have the listener shaking their asses, banging their heads and pumping their fists in the air, begging to be cranked for the world to hear.
