The Middle East presents: Brighton Beat, Le Prestige - 18+, $15 Advance / $20 Day of Show, 8:00 PM Doors   The Brighton Beat is a unique and engaging spectacle, whose influences range from Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, to modern cutting-edge NYC Jazz with a heavy helping of classic New Orleans brass band Funk. Performing up and down the East coast since 2010, the band has developed a style of performance that is incredibly uplifting and infectiously danceable - a trademark of The Brighton Beat sound. Their shows often include guest vocalists, audience participation, group sing-a-longs and even the occasional circus act! The band's passion for music and family-friendly entertainment is paramount, with each performance being a unique, shared experience that showcases the pure unbridled joy the band has playing together, and invites new listeners to join this heartwarming family. Le Prestige is a 9-piece instrumental and improvisational music group based in Somerville and Cambridge, Massachusetts. Their original songs are primarily influenced by the spirit of 60’s soul jazz and the big beats and loops of 90’s hip-hop and electronica. Taking an organic and low-tech approach to these sounds, the tunes feature horn-driven melodies and expressive soloing over funk, jazz, reggae and disco grooves. Live sets are peppered with select covers such as “Wichita Lineman” and the “Theme from S.W.A.T” The band consists of bandleader and composer Chris Forkey on upright bass, John Glenshaw on drums, David Johnston on guitar, Gary Wallen on vibraphone, Michael McLaughlin on accordion, Scott Getchell on trumpets and flugelhorn, Kit Buckley on tenor sax, Charles Murrell on alto sax and flute, and Dana Colley (Morphine) on baritone and tenor saxes.
