Description
Pianist, composer, bandleader, and four–time GRAMMY Award nominee, Gerald Clayton searches for honest expression in every note he plays. With harmonic curiosity and critical awareness, he develops musical narratives that unfold as a result of both deliberate searching and chance uncovering. Clayton’s inclusive sensibilities have allowed him to work with Diana Krall, Roy Hargrove, Terri Lyne Carrington and, of course, the Clayton Brothers Quintet (co–founded by his father, bassist John Clayton). In 2013, Gerald Clayton joined the band of saxophonist Charles Lloyd; they’ve toured and recorded together ever since. In 2016–2017, the pianist spearheaded Piedmont Blues, an ambitious multi-media concert presentation exploring the singular blues style of the Piedmont region. Piedmont Blues featured a nine–piece band and including vocalist René Marie and tap dancer Maurice Chestnut, their performances illuminated by projected film, still photographs, and folklore underscoring the verdant cultural landscape  Gerald Clayton - piano Logan Richardson - alto sax Joe Sanders - bass Kendrick Scott - drums
