This year’s Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo began with a dramatic demonstration of Mother Nature’s power; the festival continued only through a demonstration of the power of community. Just as this year’s event was about to begin, the Bayou Boogaloo and its partners were hit with a sudden, torrential storm that was later declared by the National Weather Service as a microburst – essentially a small tornado. Equipment was damaged or destroyed, vendors’ supplies and original work were ruined and, because Friday’s event had to be canceled in its wake, everyone lost a night of festival sales. The Bayou Boogaloo carried on and opened as scheduled the following day thanks to the outpouring of support and hard work.
