FUTURE ISLANDS makes their humble return to The Empty Bottle 5 years after their last appearance here. Led by crooning frontman Samuel T. Herring, the members of Future Islands started out making electropop music together in 2003 while attending East Carolina University's art program. Along with Herring, the initial members of the group were Adam Beeby, William Cashion, Gerrit Welmers, and Kymia Nawabi, and they played shows around campus as Art Lord & the Self-Portraits. In 2006, after the band split, Herring, Cashion, and Welmers continued under the name Future Islands and picked up the kickass bassist Erick Murillo to fill out their sound on an electronic drum kit. 10 years, countless tours, six albums, multiple side-projects (including a hip-hop duo with Madlib), and a couple record labels later, FUTURE ISLANDS has finally found their way home to us. We're bucklin' up for this one.
Another round of #EB25 shows is upon us, & we're bringing back even more influential bands of Bottle's past. Keep a close watch for more announcements as we celebrate through 2017.
