Freekbass returns for a hometown concert on Friday, November 23, the day after Thanksgiving, for his annual "FUNKSGIVING" show at Southgate House Revival in Newport, KY. This is now his fourth year, and the show has become an annual event. He kicks it up a notch this year, bringing in special guest, Sammi Garett from the Brooklyn-based band, Turkuaz. Super funkateer Rico Lewis (George Clinton/Parliament Funkadelic) will be on drums. Rico, along with the late, great, “Razor Sharp” Johnson, star with Garett in a musicvideo for the new Freekbass single, "Steppin' Outta Line", which had over 160,000 views on YouTube in its first month. The single was co-written and produced by another Cincinnati native, Itaal Shur, who won a Grammy award for the song "Smooth", by Santana.
Freekbass says he wants to get creative with the show this year, and plans to make this an audience-immersive experience.
"It's always special playing at home, and this year we are going to turn it up a bit," hints Freekbass. "Our friend Sammi (Garett) always takes things to another level with her talent and style, and we have a few other surprises in store, too."
Garett who has toured the region with her group, Turkuaz, will be making her first local appearance with Freekbass.
"I am SO excited, I get to be with my Freekbass family!" says Garett. "I love them, and hometown shows are always really special, so I am really happy I get to experience that with them."
Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Freekbass was an only child who initially wanted to be a magician. He later developed his own obsession for cartoon superheroes and comic books, relating to the underlying themes.
Living in Cincinnati exposed Freekbass to genres of music he may have missed otherwise. While most kids were listening to Nirvana and Green Day, he connected with the bottom-heavy sounds coming out of the boom boxes like Zapp and Midnight Star. While working in a music shop to pay off his first electric bass he had in lay-away, he began to study the classics of Larry Graham, Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, Parliament and Bootsy with a bass in one hand, and an MPC2000 in the other.

Rock
Drop the Sun first began in July 2014 as the synth/rock brain child of Sean Poe and Tommy Dudley. Using guitar riffs on top of backtracks, they began to progress from just a small project idea to a publicized rock duo.
“The Local 12 studio got a taste of a unique style of music on Sunday.” -Cincinnati WKRC
On January 18, 2015, they performed a song entitled “Missing the Ground” to promote the Madison Theatre Band Challenge they were participating in. The two advanced to the semi-finals. This success encouraged the two to expand from backtracks. They then introduced a drummer, bassist, and synth artist.
The following year, they played the Madison Theatre Band Challenge and made it to the semi-finals, yet again. They started getting show offers and continued to progress. They released their first 6-track EP “Are You with Me?” and began building a professional network. A year later they encountered a bit of stylistic conflict and lost a few members.
After sending out an all-call for new artists, Drop the Sun was inspired by the many creative musicians and ideas that flowed through the auditions. They eventually introduced brass, violin, and vocal harmonies. As their members changed, so did their sound, into the alternative indie rock style they produce today.
Drop the Sun has always stayed true to their message of peace and unity through artistry, and they continue along an independent musical track to bring unique instrumentations to awaken the creative souls residing in the Cincinnati area.
