Description
Fred Hersch is a 10–time GRAMMY Award nominee, a select member of jazz’s piano pantheon, and an influential creative force in contemporary music. Listening to his solo piano album Alone At The Vanguard (Palmetto, 2011), “I expected the virtuosity—Hersch, after all, is a living legend,” Jonathan Blitzer wrote in The New Yorker. “What I didn’t expect, and what floored me, was how personal and transporting it all felt...There’s a humbling vitality in these songs, and a palpable sense of wisdom, too. It’s the sound of someone who’s been places.”
Miguel Zenón, whose album Típico received a 2018 GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album, “has carved out a unique path for himself as an interpreter of the music of his native Puerto Rico through the lens of cutting–edge, acoustic jazz.” (NPR Music)

“The most arrestingly innovative pianist in jazz over the last decade or so” (Vanity Fair) and “a master who plays it his way” (The New York Times), Fred Hersch is an eight–time GRAMMY Award nominee including two for his latest trio album Floating (MRI, 2014). He returns to our stage this week for a series of intimate duet performances with six different musical compatriots.
Multiple GRAMMY Award nominee and Guggenheim/MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenón has been acclaimed as one of the most groundbreaking and influential saxophonists of his generation. As a composer and conceptualist, he continues to weave a musical tapestry from the threads of Latin American folkloric music and improvisational jazz.
