Saxophone Virtuoso Frank Catalano and Smashing Pumpkins’ Drum Master Jimmy Chamberlin return to the Iridium on November 19 for a not-to-be-missed intimate concert and live recording. Frank and Jimmy became friends almost 20 years ago and they bring a unique pedigree and special style to the bandstand. Their love for music is palpable every time they perform live as well as on numerous Grammy-Award Winning and Nominated Recordings.

Since their #1 chart-topping debut album Love Supreme Collective, Frank and Jimmy have toured the US, Japan, and Europe, maintained an ambitious recording schedule, and appeared on numerous radio and television programs including an hour-long PBS special. Both 2015’s God's Gonna Cut You Down and 2016’s Bye Bye Blackbird, featuring saxophone legend David Sanborn, were best-sellers on the iTunes and Billboard Charts and critics’ picks for Huffington Post, Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora, Jazz Hot, and DownBeat. In 2017 and 2018, Frank and Jimmy will release a Live Trilogy of albums recorded in Tokyo, New York, and Chicago, featuring original compositions, jazz standards, and new interpretations of songs by Kraftwerk, 2Pac, and New Order. Pre-orders are available at www.pledgemusic.com/projects/livetrilogy.

At only 10 years old, Frank was heard by Chicago jazzmaster Von Freeman, who introduced him to Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Betty Carter, Eddie Harris, and Johnny Griffin. Frank's informal education came from sitting in with these and other jazz legends. While attending DePaul University, then 18-year-old Catalano was signed to Delmark Records and began touring and recording with the likes of Randy Brecker, Charles Earland, Louie Bellson, and Tony Bennett. Frank has enjoyed non-jazz success recording and performing with diverse artists including Seal, Beyoncé, John Legend, and Les Claypool. Catalano is also the patented inventor of a sax/keyboard system for EDM music and the Celebrity Influencer for Drambuie Scotch liqueur. In 2017, Hal Leonard Publishing released Frank's saxophone method book Modern Saxophone Techniques. When not on the road, Frank splits his time between Chicago and Manhattan where he maintains homes.

Growing up in Joliet, Illinois, Jimmy's father was a jazz clarinetist and his youth was filled listening to the recordings of Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Max Roach, and Elvin Jones. Chamberlin brought this jazz foundation to The Smashing Pumpkins and helped propel them into one of the best-selling rock bands of all time. In 2016, Rolling Stone magazine included Jimmy as one of the “100 greatest drummers of all time”. In any genre, Chamberlin’s emotive drum style is an integral part of the musical narrative. When not touring with Catalano, Billy Corgan, or The Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy keeps a very active clinic and lecture schedule that takes him around the globe.

"Frank Catalano is John Coltrane energy for the 21st Century" - DownBeat Magazine

"Jimmy's drum parts are so incredibly technical and nuanced that it's a rare class of drummers that can step in and play" - Rolling Stone
