Growing up in the heat of the Sonoran Desert, Karis Koris spent long childhood summers wrapped up in their own world. Eventually, that world grew too large to hold inside, and they learned to let it out through song. Now known throughout a few musical corners of Eugene, Oregon, Karis bridges the gap between their two worlds as a living, moving performance of musical storytelling in French Pierrot style. Recognized for their haunting vocalizations and reverberating harmonium accompaniments, Karis’ work chronicles life with a dissociative disorder. Their most recent album, “Philautia,” delves into the complicated process of navigating more than one consciousness and working towards a better life. Other works include “That Sad Summer Album,” in which Karis writes in tandem with time; as well as the emotional EP “Borderline Lullabies.”
