ELAINE V. GIBBS in "Love Beyond the Roses" | Debut of new single "BEAUTIFUL WOMAN" (Award-winning R&B & Soul Singer)
-
Elaine Gibbs began her life in music at the tender age of 13 where she got her start as many R&B phenomenons have, at church. Those early experiences still greatly influence her vocal sensibilities today.
Her accomplishments are many, including her appearance on Season One of X Factor as one of the 'Over 30's' finalists, where she wowed judges with her interpretation of Stop Crying Your Heart Out by Oasis. LA Reid, Simon, Nicole and Paula raved that she is one of the best singers they have ever encountered.
Elaine has been very busy writing, producing and performing for private clients and public figures, including opening the Congressional Season at the State House in Sacramento as guest artist by Assemblyman Mike Davis; performing for the Annual Living Legends Award for Black History Month; and serenading Senate President Darrell Steinberg for the Special Needs 6th Annual Evening Under The Stars, honoring him as a champion for the autism community, a charity organization Elaine has been committed to for many years.
Elaine lent her heartfelt and emotional voice to a music video for TV1's Black History Month called 'Martin Can You Hear Us', designed to reconnect Americans to the importance of Dr. King's teachings.
She has performed in over 25 countries, with some of the biggest names in the world of Gospel and R&B music such as the late Rev. James Cleveland, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Tramaine Hawkins and Shirley Ceasar. She has worked with Bobby Womack, Cherrelle, Miki Howard and the Gap Band. On a broader scale she has sung for Rod Stewart and performed at recent galas honoring individuals such as Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, Angela Bassett, Stephanie Mills and Chaka Kahn.
A big part of Elaine's life as a performer has included the inevitable wedding gig circuit, and she has had the distinct pleasure of working as vocal partner with one of Southern California's elite bands for more than 15 years, Chuck Wansley After Hours. Together they've delighted Brides & Grooms all over the world including Marcia Cross, Larry King, Brad Garrett, Lela Rachon and many others.
Film scores and TV tracks have also been part of Elaine's story, including voice-overs for Disney Studios and a collaboration duet with the late Ollie Woodson of The Temptations. She also sang for the film 'This Christmas' produced and starring actor Mekhi Pfeifer, and performed live with Justin Timberlake for Victoria Secret's TV show.
She released her very first R&B album as a young lead singer with the group Side Effect, and Billboard magazine - the record industry's bible, wrote that she was a 'voice to be reckoned with' comparing her to such legends as Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan.
Beyond Elaine's natural gifts she has furthered her vocal training under the tutelage of Seth Riggs and Brad Chapman at The Seth Riggs Vocal Studio at University of Southern California. Elaine's undying belief is that her voice was created by God for greatness, and it is with this greatness she delivers a pure emotional connection straight to the heart of anyone who listens. -
The American dream came true for Catalina Popescu in October of 1986 when she and her husband Bob created a supper club devoted to serving an experience of superb eats and the shared magic of live performance. That grand experience began at the door where every night her mother Maria would greet each guest as family and share in their love of music. Housed in Hollywood and decked out in a timeless charm, the club offers a cozy ambience under sparkling stage lights garnished with its signature concoction — Jazz. The first artist to grace the stage was the masterful flutist and saxophonist Buddy Collette, and ever since then, over the past 36 years, the Catalina Jazz Club has hosted the most illustrious legends of all time — from the powerful puffers of Dizzy Gillespie to the electrified fingers of McCoy Tyner, the bubbly belt of Dee Dee Bridgewater and Lynda Carter, the flirtatious saxophone of Joshua Redman, the slick strumming of Kenny Burrell, the insane drum clinic of Steve Gadd, the romance of Steve Tyrell, and the masterclass of Mike Stern.
For Catalina, Jazz is our way of life. It breathes pain. It knows love. It dreams hope. It bleeds courage. Whether we’re showcasing Broadway, Soul, R&B, or stand-up comedy, the lesson learned from all the greats who have serenaded our spirits is how to connect to one another. And that’s why the Catalina Jazz Club will always have a table ready for you.
The Catalina Jazz Club has been honored by A.S.M.A.C., California Jazz Foundation, Los Angeles Jazz Society, and a City of Los Angeles Certificate of Appreciation on their 25th Anniversary, which was awarded by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the LA City Council which included then City Council member and current Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
