Jeremy Sole has been collecting vinyl from around the world for 30 years to build his own global sound. His remixes and live DJ sets are soundtracks for the “genre non-conforming”, blending or downright transcending era, style, tempo and genre.
Sole has had the honor of sharing the stage and/or recording in the studio with hundreds of his inspirations over his career, including Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, Parliament Funkadelic, Chaka Khan, Moses Sumney, James Blake and many more. Gilles Peterson named Sole "#2 DJ Of The Year, 2011" as well as "Radio Show Of The Year, 2014". Sole was the last DJ to open for both Ray Charles and Gil Scott-Heron on what turned out to be their final concerts. He deejayed for Sly Stone's birthday party, worked on music for a year with Ms. Lauryn Hill, enlisted Daptone musicians to reimagine a 1976 classic for David Bowie in his final days, and was asked to spin traditional New Orleans funeral dirges atop a giant animatronic octopus with Susan Sarandon, leading a procession of hundreds through Burning Man to bring Timothy Leary’s ashes to the temple.
Sole is most widely known for his weekly KCRW radio show, now in its 16th year, where he helped break many now-major artists with their first radio plays including Black Pumas, Hiatus Kaiyote, Michael Kiwanuka, The Shakes (now Alabama Shakes). He aired the world radio debuts of music for Santana, Chicano Batman, Gary Clark Jr, Yusuf (Cat Stevens), Aaron Frazer, Saul Williams and countless others.
As Co-Founder and resident deejay of "Afro Funké", Sole and his partners drew a loyal crowd to Santa Monica every week for 15 years. This was his arena for African, Latin, Brazilian, Jamaican and other authentic sounds from around the world. Hundreds of international artists and deejays joined him on stage over the years - so many memories of Prince and his entourage on the dancefloor and impromptu jam sessions with Stevie Wonder and other legends.
Sole has also produced official remixes for BECK (US), FEMI KUTI (Nigeria), JAZZANOVA (Germany), THIEVERY CORPORATION (US), ALSARAH (Sudan), SOLA ROSA (New Zealand), NOVALIMA (Peru), ROCKY DAWUNI (Ghana), QUANTIC (Colombia), DOM LA NENA (Brasil) and others.
