Diff'rent Folkz has built a solid reputation for world class, quality entertainment highlighted by performances at Vibrato Grill, Jazz ETC, the Whiskey A Go Go, Catalina Bar and Grill, The Federal NoHo, Aldabella Winery, The Viper Room, Soboba Casino, California Strawberry Festival, San Manuel Casino, Harrah's Ak Chin, State Theatre Friendship Shell - Bay City, MI, House of Blues, and MCCS (Marine Corps) performances in Tokyo and Okinawa Japan. Diff'rent Folkz - a Neo Sly Stone Experience is a Los Angeles based, crossover, (r&b, funk, rock) blast from the past, that takes its audience on a 90-minute retrospective of the hits from legendary singer, songwriter, record producer SLY STONE and all he has influenced! The musicianship is STELLAR and the show itself is RED HOT! You can enjoy "Dance to the Music," "Family Affair," "Everyday People," "Thank U Faletinme B Mice Elf," "Hot Fun in the Summertime!" and much more! All night long the hits just keep on coming! You will also learn and understand how Sly has influenced Michael Jackson, Prince, Janet Jackson, Music Soul Child, Nikka Costa and modern music in general!

As 2013 was coming to a close, bassist Robin Rountree was approached by members of Sly Stone's family and previous band members, creating a Sly and the Family Stone Tribute. They needed a funky bass player and Ms. Rountree leaped at the opportunity to play this music. After a few months that crew broke, and Ms. Rountree developed this exciting tribute!

The American dream came true for Catalina Popescu in October of 1986 when she and her husband Bob created a supper club devoted to serving an experience of superb eats and the shared magic of live performance. That grand experience began at the door where every night her mother Maria would greet each guest as family and share in their love of music. Housed in Hollywood and decked out in a timeless charm, the club offers a cozy ambience under sparkling stage lights garnished with its signature concoction — Jazz. The first artist to grace the stage was the masterful flutist and saxophonist Buddy Collette, and ever since then, over the past 36 years, the Catalina Jazz Club has hosted the most illustrious legends of all time — from the powerful puffers of Dizzy Gillespie to the electrified fingers of McCoy Tyner, the bubbly belt of Dee Dee Bridgewater and Lynda Carter, the flirtatious saxophone of Joshua Redman, the slick strumming of Kenny Burrell, the insane drum clinic of Steve Gadd, the romance of Steve Tyrell, and the masterclass of Mike Stern.

The Catalina Jazz Club has been honored by A.S.M.A.C., California Jazz Foundation, Los Angeles Jazz Society, and a City of Los Angeles Certificate of Appreciation on their 25th Anniversary, which was awarded by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the LA City Council which included then City Council member and current Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
