A Harvard and Berklee alum, emerging bassist, vocalist and composer Devon Gates returns to Regattabar, bringing her signature blend of modern jazz, soul, and chamber influences. Through original compositions and innovative arrangements, she combines a dynamic rhythm section with string trio for an unforgettable evening of storytelling and connection.

Recently named one of 2024’s Up and Comers of the Year (The New York City Jazz Record), Devon Gates is a bassist, vocalist, and award-winning composer from Atlanta, Georgia, now based in Brooklyn, NY. After studying anthropology and jazz performance at Harvard University and Berklee College of Music, she has worked with esteemed artists including Terri Lyne Carrington, Vijay Iyer, Jen Shyu, Fay Victor, Nicole Mitchell, Susie Ibarra, and Sara Serpa, and has performed at venues including Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola (Lincoln Center), The Jazz Gallery, the Monterey Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Montreal Jazz Festival, DC Jazz Festival, Winter JazzFest, Roulette Intermedium, and SFJazz. She is featured on upright bass and vocals on Terri Lyne Carrington’s newest release, We Insist 2025, a tribute to the landmark Abbey Lincoln/Max Roach 1960 album.
