Tonight we welcome back two veterans of the final Adventures In Modern Music Festival that we hosted last October. London’s DEMDIKE STARE is the occult-themed collaboration between SEAN CANTY of FINDER’S KEEPER’S and MILES WHITTAKER, a techno and house DJ who has operated under numerous monikers. The two create chilly, ethereal movements that are both playful but menacing, slipping into the subconscious in a curious mood-inducing manner. 2012 saw the release of their latest collaboration, Elemental, and the live show features visuals created specifically for each piece and each venue. Exploring the tension between electronic sound and acoustic instrumentation, DUANE PITRE is an avant-garde composer and performer who is currently obsessed with the decay of sound and the space it provides. Minimalist to his core, PITRE’s 2012 album Feel Free is described by Wire as “open and airy” and its innovative blend of droney, harmonic stacking and plucking shimmers in its stillness. Not bad for a skater from NOLA. Grinding, noisy and cavernous, STAVE is the solo electronic/noise project of Chicagoan JONATHAN KROHN, former member of experimental rock group MALE. With an impending debut full-length Reform out earlier this week, STAVE has already flexed muscles with a menacing single, "Tower9," which combines punishing, overdriven loops, decaying samples, and a rhythmic, off-kilter sensibility. KARL MEIER, our pal from Saki Records in Logan Square, will be DJing all the weirdest material he can find throughout the night, so come by and lay face first on the floor.

    Dance

Demdike Stare is the occult new project from Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty. Miles is probably better known as Modern Love's DJ MLZ or as 0.5 of Pendle Coven. Sean Canty is the dedicated digger behind the Haxan events and a member of the hugely respected Finders Keepers crew of vinyl vultures. Their collaborative project tracks the sonic leylines of cult soundtracks, Arabesque dubs and psychotomimetic ephemera with a proper Lancastrian twist.....

    Alternative Rock

Duane Pitre is an American avant-garde composer, performer, and sound artist. His work often focuses on the interaction between electronic sound and acoustic instrumentationchaos and discipline, as well as site-specificity and performativity. The composer frequently utilizes alternate tuning schemes that focus on microtonality, enabling him to explore unaccustomed intervallic relationships. He has created works for various instrumentation configurations such as string orchestra, his own bowed harmonic-guitar ensemble, string/wind ensembles, as well as solo works (for himself).
