Deicide is an American death metal band that was formed in Tampa, Florida in 1987 by drummer and composer Steve Asheim and guitarist brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman. The band was originally called "Carnage" before adding bassist, vocalist, and lyricist Glen Benton and changing their name to "Amon". In 1989, they settled on the name Deicide, which means "the killing (or the killer) of a god".
