Description
Daya writes songs you can see yourself in. The Diamond-certified GRAMMY® Award-winning pop singer and songwriter tunes into pure emotion, channeling her unfiltered feelings in the form of alternately anthemic and intimate genre-breaking bangers. She has not only evolved artistically, but she’s also personally grown up in real-time via nearly a decade of releases. The world initially got to know Daya in 2015 when she first took flight with her triple-platinum debut “Hide Away,” which peaked at #23 of the Billboard Hot 100. 16-years-old at the time, the single sent her career into overdrive. Less than a year later, she unveiled her gold-certified full-length debut LP, Sit Still, Look Pretty, powered up by the platinum title track “Sit Still, Look Pretty.” Simultaneously, her voice resounded across genres and throughout popular culture. She joined forces with The Chainsmokers for the mega-smash “Don’t Let Me Down,” which earned a rare Diamond certification from the RIAA and snagged a GRAMMY® in the category of “Best Dance Recording.” Plus, she collaborated with the likes of Dom Dolla, Anyma, RL Grime, Gryffin, and Illenium in addition to contributing to major soundtracks like NETFLIX’s 13 Reasons Why. She emerged as the rare outlier who could shine at the White House Easter Egg Roll in front of Fmr. President Barack Obama and the First Family, at Princeton University with rapper NLE Choppa, or on stage at Coachella and Lollapalooza. she has packed houses in China, Japan, and The Philippines as well as across North America. Much like a mirror, music reflects who we are back to us.
In 2025, she makes a bold statement with her second full-length album and independent debut, exploring the moment of self-discovery, how it feels to fall in love, and what it means to be human.
“When you listen to me, I’d love for you to find parts of yourself in the music,” she affirms. “I have a deeper sense of myself as an artist. I’ve evolved so much and I’m exploring everything I can. I’ve embraced who I am at this point of my life, and I’m confident and excited for the world to hear it. The result is very human. I wasn’t ready to fully put myself out there until now.”
The world initially got to know Daya in 2015 when she first took flight with her triple-platinum debut “Hide Away,” which peaked at # 23 of the Billboard Hot 100. 16-years-old at the time, the single sent her career into overdrive. Less than a year later, she unveiled her gold-certified full-length debut LP, Sit Still, Look Pretty, powered up by the platinum title track “Sit Still, Look Pretty.” Simultaneously, her voice resounded across genres and throughout popular culture. She joined forces with The Chainsmokers for the mega-smash “Don’t Let Me Down,” which earned a rare Diamond certification from the RIAA and snagged a GRAMMY® in the category of “Best Dance Recording.”
Along the way, she collaborated with the likes of Dom Dolla, Anyma, RL Grime, Gryffin, and Illenium in addition to contributing to major soundtracks like NETFLIX’s 13 Reasons Why. She emerged as the rare outlier who could shine at the White House Easter Egg Roll in front of Fmr. President Barack Obama and the First Family, at Princeton University with rapper NLE Choppa, or on stage at Coachella and Lollapalooza. Emerging as a powerhouse performer, she has packed houses in China, Japan, and The Philippines as well as across North America. 2024 saw her drop “Don’t Call” to widespread acclaim. WONDERLAND. marveled at how, “The ever-evolving Daya continues to innovate artistically, blending captivating pop, soulful R&B, and vibrant electronic elements,” while Melodic Magazine praised, “Daya has always shown the world her authentic self.”
Setting her sights on the next chapter, the songstress made regular trips to Sweden in order to write with a cohort of trusted collaborators. Immersing herself in different sounds like the underground electronic approach, she expanded her approach.
“I started to experiment,” she elaborates. “I stopped thinking of songs in a traditional sense, and the material ended up being pretty diverse. There are up-tempo moments, but it’s also more electronic, chill, psychedelic, slowed-down, soulful, and sensual. My vocals blend with the tracks, and I’m using my voice as an instrument. I allowed myself to be free, and it’s the most natural progression for me. This is music I’ve been wanting to write for the past few years. Thematically, I was finally able to come terms with aspects of myself and relationships.”
She ignites her latest chapter with the single “Infrared.” This time around, she leaned on moodier production and accelerated the tempo. A robotic warble dissolves into a glitchy beat punctuated by the pulsate of icy keys. Her vocals flutter on the bridge, echoing with longing and lust until the climactic chorus takes hold. Daya coos, “Baby, there’s a first time for everything,” going on to assure, “I’ll break you in.”
“Overall, it’s darker and more ethereal,” she goes on. “It reaches a level I hadn’t accessed before. ‘Infrared’ is about getting to know somebody, feeling the heat of the moment, and following it. When it comes to relationships, I’m trying not to overthink it and just be freer. It’s the vulnerability of being intimate with a person for the first time, letting go of the control, and seeing where the night takes us. ‘Infrared’ sums it up.”
In the end, Daya’s clarity, honesty, and intent might inspire you.
“I hope this encourages you to express yourself,” she leaves. “I’ve gotten very introspective. I know myself. If I can help you understand yourself better through my experience, that would be incredible. I’m excited to keep learning and growing.”
