The event at the N.C. Transportation Museum includes Thomas and Percy train rides, children’s hay bale maze, bubble area, games and activities, model train layouts, food vendors, picnic shelters, a large gift shop, plus three exhibit buildings featuring North Carolina’s transportation history with rail cars, antique automobiles and a Wright Brothers flyer replica.

COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS OR REGULATIONS:
Enhanced safety protocols in place. All Day Out With Thomas™ events will be required to follow local government guidelines. Advance reservations strongly encouraged.
 
Visitors and museum staff are encouraged to wear face when they cannot maintain six (6) feet of social distance from non-household members

TSA requires proper wearing of face masks on the train, per federal law. Failure to comply will result in denial of boarding or removal and may result in penalties under federal law. Children under the age of two and individuals with disabilities who cannot wear a mask, or cannot safely wear a mask, because of the disability as defined by the Americans with Disability Act are exempt. 

​The museum is walking intensive and involves entering and exiting several buildings and outside areas. Visitors with mobility issues are encouraged to bring their own wheelchairs, walkers, etc., as required.  One car of each train is equipped for ADA accessibility including limited wheelchair spaces and the availability of a wheelchair lift. The other cars on the train are not ADA accessible due to the vintage nature of their construction.

    In accordance with COVID-19 considerations and health orders, cloth face masks are required on the train, in exhibit buildings, in the Gift Station, and anywhere social distancing of at least six feet is not possible.  Enhanced cleaning protocols have been implemented on the train and throughout the site. Museum capacity is at 100%. Train cars will be limited to 6 feet distance between parties and cars will be sanitized between each ride, including seats, windows, and handrails.  Advanced purchasing is strongly encouraged for the train ride due to capacity limitations.

COVID 19 RESTRICTIONS OR REGULATIONS: Enhanced safety protocols in place. All Day Out With Thomas Events will be required to follow local government guidelines. Please be sure to bring your mask. Advance reservations required.

-Special Offers are not applicable for all train ride times. Most access codes are generally for Thomas train tickets only, not for combo tickets, and are invalid for Saturday and Sunday train ride times between 11:00am – 1:59pm local time.

-Ticket holders will receive an armband to grant them access to paid admission areas and all Thomas activities. Armbands will be included in the Will Call ticket envelopes. Visitors who received their tickets mailed to them in advance should present their tickets at any information booth or the Will Call/ Ticket Box Office booths to receive armbands.

-A Thomas ticket is required for museum admission and all activities during all Day Out With Thomas event days. All visitors are required to have a ticket ages 2 and up. Under 2 do not require a ticket but they will not have their own seat.

-Individuals ARE NOT allowed to walk around the grounds without a ticket.

-Strollers will not be allowed on the Thomas or Percy train. A special parking area will be provided near the trains to leave strollers. Visitors are encouraged not to leave any valuables in the strollers while they are left in this area. Please make sure your stroller is clearly identified with your name or other device since many strollers may appear similar when grouped together.

-Digital, film and video cameras are welcome at the museum. Visitors may not stand on railroad tracks for photographs. All grade crossing will be staffed by museum volunteers for safety throughout the day. Visitors may take photos at a safe distance from alongside the tracks or from any of the public walkways

-Event is rain or shine

-Tickets are valid for the date/time printed on the ticket only

-Arrive at least one hour early, trains depart on time, you may line up for boarding 30 minutes prior to train departure

-Food and drink (except water) are not allowed on the Thomas/Percy trains or in certain exhibit areas.

-No pets except approved guide animals.

-No climbing on rail equipment unless permitted by museum signs, No walking on tracks or in closed-off areas of property.

-Outside food is OK.

-All sales are final, there are no refunds.
