David Torkanowsky is a renowned jazz pianist, composer, and arranger from New Orleans, born in 1956 to conductor Werner Torkanowsky and flamenco dancer Theresa Torkanowsky. Immersed in music from an early age, he studied under local legends like Ellis Marsalis and James Booker and briefly attended Berklee College of Music. He was a founding member of the acclaimed modern jazz ensemble Astral Project and has worked with artists such as Dianne Reeves, Boney James, and Allen Toussaint. In addition to performing, Torkanowsky has composed for film and television, with credits including NCIS: New Orleans, Tremé, and The Big Easy. His recording career spans nearly 200 projects, and he continues to be a central figure in the New Orleans music scene, performing regularly and serving as composer-in-residence at Storyville Studios. His style blends classical technique, flamenco roots, and the rich improvisational language of jazz. Seth Finch is a New Orleans–based up and coming pianist originally from Baton Rouge. A standout student at Baton Rouge Magnet High School under teacher Mike Esneault, he earned coveted spots with the National Youth Orchestra Jazz ensemble at Carnegie Hall—touring Europe in 2018–19 led by Sean Jones and again in Asia with Kurt Elling. He also received an Honorable Mention in the YoungArts competition and has performed widely with jazz luminaries like Diane Reeves,Sean Jones, and Wycliffe Gordon. Finch remains active on the New Orleans scene and has been featured at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. His style bridges classical training and modern jazz, showcasing both technical command and deep, improvisational expression. Tonight, the two join forces for a very special performance.
