David Torkanowsky is one of New Orleans’ premier contemporary jazz pianists, composers, arrangers, and producers, celebrated for his versatility across jazz, funk, blues, and rhythm & blues. Born and raised in New Orleans, he comes from a deeply musical family — the son of renowned conductor Werner Torkanowsky and flamenco dancer Theresa Torkanowsky. Mentored by legendary figures including Danny Barker and Ellis Marsalis, Torkanowsky has spent more than five decades mastering his lyrical playing, inventive improvisation, and dynamic collaborations.  Throughout his career, Torkanowsky has performed and recorded with an extraordinary list of artists including Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint, Dianne Reeves, George Porter Jr., Zigaboo Modeliste, Stanton Moore, Earl Turbinton, Boney James, and members of the Marsalis family. He was also an original member of the acclaimed modern jazz group Astral Project and has appeared on over 200 recordings. Torkanowsky remains a vital presence in the New Orleans music community and continues to perform regularly at festivals, concert halls, and jazz venues.
