Cuban trumpeter David “Davisito” Navarro, a rising voice in modern Cuban jazz now based in New Orleans, is known for his versatility, charisma, and collaborations with artists like Emilio Morales, El Niño y la Verdad, and José Alberto “El Canario.” Since relocating in 2023, he’s become a regular presence with groups including the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra and Delfeayo Marsalis’ Uptown Jazz Orchestra, with performances that frequently sell out at Snug Harbor. Joining him is legendary drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, whose remarkable career spans work with icons like Gonzalo Rubalcaba, McCoy Tyner, Carlos Santana, and Tito Puente, along with Grammy-winning recordings and deep ties to New Orleans through projects like Los Hombres Caliente. A mentor to Navarro, Hernandez returns for this special appearance symbolizing the passing of the Cuban jazz torch. This one-of-a-kind performance is presented in partnership with CubaNOLA Arts Collective. Following the evening's performance, we will celebrate Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez's birthday with a special late set with a Cuban "descarga" meaning jam session. Expect surprise visiting Cuban musicians, tons of local Cuban artists and, ofcourse,  plenty of New Orleans' best performers on hand to honor and celebrate this legend of Cuban and Latin Jazz.
