The first shafts of morning light creep over the hilltop terraces, illuminating the ancient commune of Palestrina - David August breathes new air. Born in Hamburg in 1990, August composes and performs multifaceted electronic music with hopeful tones and a human aesthetic. “Creating music - the act of creating in general - should be free from rationalization. In the best case, relying solely on subconsciousness communication,” says the classically trained multi-instrumentalist. Speaking with David, one immediately realizes the value that he places upon his well-earned artistic independence and steadfast sincerity. This hard-fought pursuit can be traced clearly through the producer’s recorded works; from a string of early dance singles and remixes (2010-2014), followed by his celebrated debut album, Times (2013), to a handful of genre-defying outings on Ninja Tune sub-label, Counter Records (2016), the Tonmeister graduate (2017) continues to uncloak hidden inner paths yet to be discovered.

A versatile DJ, and former resident at Baltimore House in Hamilton, Jason has opened for and played alongside The Revenge, Ital, Mike Servito, Orphx, Maria Minerva, Magda, Dent May, Profligate, Linkwood, Jessy Lanza, and Gatekeeper, among others, with dates in Hamilton, Toronto, Montréal, Leeds, and New York (including The Bunker and Mysteries Of The Deep). He’s hosted Astral Travelling on 93.3 CFMU every week since October 2010; past guests include Rich Oddie, Andi Hanley, Subb-an, Paul Trafford, Ciel, and Bradley Zero. Neonlichter came out of participating in the Cybernetic Orchestra, a laptop ensemble directed by Dr. David Ogborn that worked with live-coding in ChuCK, Supercollider, and Tidal. A member for 4 years, he performed with them in shows in Hamilton, Toronto, Montreal, at the live.code.fest in Karlsruhe, and virtually at the 2014 Electroacoustica Festival in Beijing. The group also produced 2 albums and an EP, where he was a member and produced the title track of their second album ‘Shift’.
