Cyborg Octopus has been an established act in the Bay Area metal scene since 2011, growing their audience with ridiculous high energy live shows and experimental music that mixes the heaviest of metals with groove and flavor influenced by countless other genres. Snooze is a heavy, happy math-rock band from Chicago, often described as “Meshuggah in major”—but more commonly, just “a band.” Their debut full-length album, Familiaris, introduced listeners to an intricately composed concept piece chronicling the life of a beloved family dog. The record weaves rich vocal harmonies through polyrhythmic, neck-snapping breakdowns, crafting a sound both emotionally resonant and technically intense. In 2020, Snooze released their EP “Still”, a heartfelt tribute to longtime bassist Cameron Grom. Featuring thunderous drumming from Anup Sastry, the EP marked a sonic shift toward heavier territory—blending the band’s math-rock roots with the aggressive edge of djent and other technical metal influences. Their highly anticipated sophomore album, I Know How You Will Die (2025), pushes even further. A sprawling, conceptual journey, the record spans a vast sonic palette—from relentless blast beats to engrossing live choir arrangements—while staying anchored in Snooze’s signature off-kilter grooves and rhythms.
