LIVE! FRI & SAT, APRIL 18 & 19 at 8:30PM. Dinner begins at 7:00PM.

If Luck be a lady, that lady is the lovely Cybill Shepherd. Looks that made her a model. Talent that made her a name. Charm that made her a superstar. And a love of music she’s had since she was a little girl that gave her a voice. It’s a side of Cybill you may not know but a side you’ll fall in love with.

Before she won our hearts on both the small and silver screens, Cybill was just a southern belle born in Tennessee singing in the church choir. Her Memphis roots gave her the gift of Blues, Pop, and Jazz, and her voice will wrap you up in warmth, love, and a smile.

Join us at the Catalina Jazz Club where Cybill graciously shares the soundtrack of her life, the magic of Memphis music, and how she came to be Queen of the Lucky Club.

Music Directed by pianist SUNNIE PAXSON with an her all star band including Freddy Ramos (guitar), Mark Towns (bass), Dave Tull (drums, vox), Frank Fontaine (sax), Sandra Adams (vox), and Susan Sidney Massengale (vox). And, Tech Director Larry G Goldman.

    Film

Joan Rivers candidly told CYBILL SHEPHERD that she was “Queen of the F’ng Lucky Club,” something she embraced wholeheartedly. She was 16 when she won the Miss Teenage Memphis pageant. After graduating high school, she followed up on a model agency invitation to New York and was named winner of the Model of The Year pageant. As a result, Her career soared. It was one look at Cybill on a Glamour magazine cover by Peter Bogdanovich that landed the 21-year-old her breakthrough movie role in The Last Picture Show. This glance catapulted her acting career and led her to be cast in The Heartbreak Kid and Taxi Driver. She went on to receive four Golden Globes and multiple Emmy nominations.

While most have known Cybill from TV and film, she says “I was a singer first.”  At age nine, she was invited to join Holy Communion Episcopal Church choir in Memphis and was training with a vocal coach by sixteen. During her high school years, she started a folk group, Cybill and Friends, that surprisingly generated income. Cybill leaned into her Memphis roots, creating a diverse & extensive repertoire including jazz standards, blues, and pop. In the live on-screen musical comedy At Long Last Love and the notable TV roles in The Cybill Show and Moonlighting with Bruce Willis gave her the opportunity to exhibit her live musical talent.

As “luck” would have it, Cybill has performed on acclaimed stages from New York to London. She collaborated with the likes of Stan Getz, Artie Butler, Sid Selvidge & Oscar Castro-Neves and other superb jazz musicians, recording 11 CDs.

Cybill steps back in the spotlight with a passion for connecting us through song. She invites us to join her on a musical journey that  celebrates the enduring magic and memory of music.

    Catalina Jazz Club

    Contemporary Jazz

The American dream came true for Catalina Popescu in October of 1986 when she and her husband Bob created a supper club devoted to serving an experience of superb eats and the shared magic of live performance. That grand experience began at the door where every night her mother Maria would greet each guest as family and share in their love of music. Housed in Hollywood and decked out in a timeless charm, the club offers a cozy ambience under sparkling stage lights garnished with its signature concoction — Jazz. The first artist to grace the stage was the masterful flutist and saxophonist Buddy Collette, and ever since then, over the past 36 years, the Catalina Jazz Club has hosted the most illustrious legends of all time — from the powerful puffers of Dizzy Gillespie to the electrified fingers of McCoy Tyner, the bubbly belt of Dee Dee Bridgewater and Lynda Carter, the flirtatious saxophone of Joshua Redman, the slick strumming of Kenny Burrell, the insane drum clinic of Steve Gadd, the romance of Steve Tyrell, and the masterclass of Mike Stern.

For Catalina, Jazz is our way of life. It breathes pain. It knows love. It dreams hope. It bleeds courage. Whether we’re showcasing Broadway, Soul, R&B, or stand-up comedy, the lesson learned from all the greats who have serenaded our spirits is how to connect to one another. And that’s why the Catalina Jazz Club will always have a table ready for you.

The Catalina Jazz Club has been honored by A.S.M.A.C., California Jazz Foundation, Los Angeles Jazz Society, and a City of Los Angeles Certificate of Appreciation on their 25th Anniversary, which was awarded by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and the LA City Council which included then City Council member and current Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti.
