Alex MacKay (Nation of Language) has released the debut LP Snakeskin from his project Cutouts. With a focus on the sinister and sardonic edges of Psychedelic Darkwave, the world of Cutouts keeps equal footing within the spheres of indie, industrial and electronic to create a world entirely its own.
Following the release of singles ‘Cowgirl’ (feat. Tomberlin), ‘Narc', and ‘Paw of the Monkey' the previous single ‘Bloodsucker’ arrived as a laidback take on a vampiric lifestyle. Tinged with ennui, McKay called the song ‘A piece of Halloween candy for you all’. The new single ‘Sore’ came out on Friday 7th February, alongside the new album.
Having initially started the project just prior to his joining of NoL Snakeskin is the first full-length offering from McKay. While he himself often serves as an in-demand producer in the indie world, most recently having worked on CHAI’s self-titled LP (SubPop), McKay teamed up with Abe Seiferth (producer behind NOL’s debut LP) to to co-produce and mix much of Snakeskin and add an extra set of studio sensibilities on the final product.
