Courtney Bryan is a celebrated New Orleans–born composer and pianist known for blending classical, jazz, gospel, and experimental music into a deeply expressive and socially engaged body of work. Her compositions, inspired by spirituality, community, and social justice, have been commissioned and performed by major institutions including the New York Philharmonic and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. A 2023 MacArthur Fellow and United States Artists Fellow, Bryan is also an Associate Professor of Music at Tulane University and currently serves as composer-in-residence with Opera Philadelphia. Her work has been presented at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and she frequently collaborates with leading musicians and visual artists across disciplines.
