Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile will lead an all-star band on a once-in-a-lifetime tour of North America this fall.

The announcement comes as two of this generation’s most exciting and unique singer-songwriters reveal that they have completed a collaboration album for release later this year.

The inter-continental duo will share the stage, performing songs off their upcoming album as well as delving into their respective back catalogues and covering a bunch of classics, all backed by their band ‘The Sea Lice,’ a revolving cast of musicians including Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag), Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint), Rob Laakso (The Violators, The Swirlies, Mice Parade) and Katie Harkin (Harkin, Sky Larkin and touring member of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Beasts). “A cookin’ band and an intercontinental country duo for the ages—minus the country,” says Vile.

Kurt and Courtney have partnered with Plus 1 so that $1 from every ticket goes to support the ACLU and their work defending and protecting our individual rights and liberties. Support for the Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile (and The Sea Lice) tour will be Australian songwriter Jen Cloher.

The album is the result of 8 days in the studio spread over almost 15 months when Courtney and Kurt’s respective touring schedules allowed for them to be in the same place at the same time. It will be released later this year jointly by Matador Records, Marathon Artists and Milk! Records.

“Her best yet... incredible” – The Guardian  ★★★★★

"...her magnum opus." - The Herald Sun ★★★★★

“Astonishingly candid…(she) tackles politics, equality and pride with frank intimacy”  - The Observer (UK)

“With three albums under her belt, Cloher has established herself as a shapeshifter within, and torch-bearer for, the conventions of rock.” – Pitchfork

"a modern day Patti Smith whose brutally honest, politically charged lyrics mark her out as one of the most interesting and important artists of her day.” - The Independent (UK)

“It’s self-titled.”  The three-word answer is all that Jen Cloher requires to describe her recently completed fourth album, a letter in triplicate addressed to themes of Love, Music and Australia (the beautiful and the terrible). Jen likes best to tell the truth.

Jen Cloher is the culmination of a period of artistic and personal growth in which the artist took her rightful place as the punk-rock figurehead of Melbourne’s famous DIY music scene. The NIDA Graduate is an outspoken advocate for artist rights and the co-founder of the incredible Milk! Records label (Courtney Barnett, Loose Tooth, Fraser A. Gorman, Jade Imagine, East Brunswick All Girls Choir). Cloher’s fascinating life-story and compelling political voice is enough justification to pay her attention, but it’s the music that will have you returning again and again.

Since 2014, Jen's regular musical contributions to Milk! Record's discography of 7" releases and compilations have been increasingly biting, witty and poetic. It's fair to say that she was in a purple patch when she put the finishing touches to her stunning new record with engineer Greg Walker amidst the rolling greenery of Jumbunna in Victoria’s Gippsland. The band that first played together four years ago on Cloher’s acclaimed third album, the Australian Music Prize nominated In Blood Memory, are bold and assured, the songs split by Courtney Barnett’s extraordinary lead-guitar and anchored by the rhythm section of Bones Sloane and Jen Sholakis. The record was completed in March 2017 with Tom Schick at Jeff Tweedy’s famous ‘Loft’ Studios in the depths of Chicago’s winter.
