    Hardcore Punk

COUNTERPARTS has come quite a long way since their formation in 2007. With a fanbase that has progressively expanded beyond their home province, the young artists have toured Canada relentlessly since March 2009. The band’s upward trajectory truly took off after the release of their debut full-length, Prophets, in February 2010. The Verona Records release turned heads across the country, as well as past its borders. The record proved to be an immediate hit among fans of the hardcore genre, simultaneously garnering praise from scene luminaries and newcomers. Its impact was bold and far-reaching, going so far as to earn the band several award nominations throughout Ontario. The positive response caused the band’s touring regimen to increase significantly, with a slew of tours taking place both at home and in the United States alongside prominent hardcore acts such IT PREVAILS. At a point when most bands would take time off to relax, COUNTERPARTS proved themselves once again to be as hard working as they come. In November 2010, the band released a split EP alongside Ontario-based hardcore unit Exalt. The EP was another instant hit among fans, and proved that the band still had plenty left to offer, both musically and lyrically, that had not been showcased on their debut.

In October 2011, COUNTERPARTS released The Current Will Carry Us via influential independent label Victory Records. The sophomore LP saw the band pursuing a rawer, straightforward sound and achieving a new level of honesty through their lyrics. Tossing any idealistic rhetoric aside, the album offers listeners an extremely introspective listening experience that depicts the band in their most sincere, vulnerable state. While the album marks a clear thematic departure from its predecessor, its unrestrained aggression makes an emotional impact that’s even more genuine. The record’s reception easily exceeded the expectations of the band members, landing them a selection as one of Alternative Press’ “100 Bands You Need To Know In 2012” and propelled them onto European tours, in which they would bring their unforgettable live presence to listeners who’d spent years anxiously awaiting the opportunity.

2013 proved to be COUNTERPARTS’ biggest year yet, sending them across the US, UK, and Europe in support of their third studio album, The Difference Between Hell And Home. Released on July 23rd, TDBHAH debuted at #63 on the Billboard Independent chart, #7 on the Top New Artist chart, and #95 on the Top 200 chart (CA), propelling COUNTERPARTS to the top of playlists everywhere. Received with an overwhelmingly positive response, the new album demonstrated Murphy’s ability to write lyrics that encapsulate listeners in an audible diary of raw, wrought emotion from start to finish. Alternative Press agrees - “COUNTERPARTS has what it takes to stretch hardcore’s boundaries.” Touring alongside bands August Burns Red, The Ghost Inside, Bane, and label-mates Terror, COUNTERPARTS continue to garner new fans with each performance. Delivering what Absolute Punk calls “rip-roaring intensity, haunting and powerful lyricism, solid song structures and vocals that guide each song forward with a remarkable sense of command”, it is abundantly clear that this Canadian hardcore band is here to stay.

2015 brought a good year for COUNTERPARTS they released their newest album "Tragedy Will Find Us." COUNTERPARTS is currently on tour across Canada and the US.

    Being As An Ocean

“We are ecstatic to finally get the opportunity to work with the family at Equal Vision Records. Our relationship has been a long time in the making, and it is like a dream come true to be able to call ourselves part of the team,” states Being As An Ocean vocalist Joel Quartuccio of the band’s recent signing announcement. “Ever since we met Dan Sandshaw, EVR’s president, we knew that the label’s ethos and passion for the music was akin to our own and that we didn’t want to settle for anything less. We are eternally grateful to EVR for sticking it out through the years with us to see this beautiful partnership to fruition.”

“Being As An Ocean is one of my favorite bands and I’m honored to have them join our family,” shares Sandshaw. “I look forward to working with them on inspiring new music filled with love, hope and compassion.”

The San Diego, CA-based outfit – comprised Quartuccio, vocalist/guitarist Michael McGough, guitarist Tyler Ross, and bassist Ralph Sica – announced their signing in February 2016, alongside the release of “Dissolve” – a stunning new song and music video that premiered via Alternative Press. The new single was recorded in Atlanta, GA at Glow In The Dark Studios with producer Matt McCllellan (Better Off, Capsize) and takes Being As An Ocean in a more hook-driven direction while still incorporating the band’s signature sound of sophisticated storytelling woven over lush, ambient soundscapes. The unique juxtaposition of Joel Quartuccio’s gritty, impassioned vocal work and Michael McGough’s gracefully soaring vocals creates a distinct blend that is both captivating and cathartic.

“‘Dissolve’ has been about 3-4 months in the making, being written over one of our longest timelines, and we think it is one of our best yet. We, simply, have never had the time to make something this special before, and I think it really shows,” reveals Quartuccio.

To date, Being As An Ocean has released three full-lengths, the latest of which – a self-titled album released last year – found impressive Billboard Chart placements including: No. 3 Vinyl Album, No. 7 Hard Rock Album, No. 11 Independent Album, No. 15 Internet Album, No. 17 Alternative Album, No. 25 Top Rock Album and No. 72 Top Current Album. The band will record their fourth full-length album later this year.

Since their inception in 2012, the band has built up up a massive and devoted following all around the world, through relentless touring and a powerful presence on social media. In 2014, the band was noted by Bandsintown as one of the top touring artists for having performed 187 shows throughout the year; And in 2015 they won the award for Best Underground Band at the Alternative Press Music Awards, beating out the massively impressive fellow nominees of State Champs, Knuckle Puck, Major League, Tigers Jaw and The Hotelier in the fan voted category. Being As An Ocean has toured and shared stages with the likes of August Burns Red, Silverstein, Amity Affliction, Defeater, Stick To Your Guns, Architects UK and more.

“In 2016, our listeners and fans should expect a lot of amazing tours, more and more singles, and a band, full of best friends, excited and ready to make this year one of the best that Being As An Ocean has ever had.”

    Alternative Rock

In the case of Baltimore's Have Mercy, what wins out-and what ultimately astounds-is raw, unfiltered passion. The band's debut LP, The Earth Pushed Back, was one of the most honest records of 2013-an album that fans of punk and emo from Brand New to Tigers Jaw to Taking Back Sunday simply couldn't afford to miss out on.

  • Varials

The Philadelphia, PA quintet—Travis Tabron [vocals], Mitchell Rogers [guitar], James Hohenwarter [guitar], Sean Rauchut [drums], and Mike Foley [bass]—augment an airtight assault of metallic unpredictability and hardcore spirit with poetic punchlines and lyrical storytelling that wouldn’t be out of place on a Kendrick Lamar verse.  Maybe it’s the water in Philadelphia, but the same gritty streets that inspired everyone from Rocky Balboa to Meek Mill powered these five musicians.

The group’s debut Absolution EP yielded a string of fan favorites such as “Deadweather” and “Stigmata,” which both cracked 100K Spotify streams. They released the Absolution split EP with Vicious Embrace in 2016 and earned acclaim from Alternative PressRevolverPunktastic, and more. Varials approach heavy music from a different angle altogether on their full-length debut, Pain Again [Fearless Records]. This mindset expands the possibilities of “heavy” throughout 11 brash, bruising, and brilliant anthems, with the band taking a collective step forward.

They collated ideas for what became Pain Again before entering the studio with producer Josh Schroeder [King 810] during early 2017. Booked for six weeks, they tracked everything in under two with Travis often impressively writing lyrics in the booth and on the spot. Ultimately, Varials tell the story in their own way, and it’s bound to make a big impact.
